Has anyone played Chipco's Samurai rules? Are theya ny good? I know that CHipco is more of a "beer and pretzels" style, but I am looking for a big battle ruleset for the later Samurai period.

It's a pretty good set of big battle rules. Like most Chipco games, it uses their Morale Clock mechanism, which makes armies harder to control as they lose units, and combat is fairly well differentiated between the major troop types. If you know of Days of Knights, it's a very similar system.

This is a good forum to ask these kind of questions:

There is a free set of big battle rules called "Bushi" there which are worth a look too.

Hi. Actually, Days of Knights and CT don't use the Morale clock. The have similar Command and Control systems (character/personality driven). I like CT. It works pretty well. I like it better when assigning a strength value to the troop types so scenario play is possible. I designed a scenario for 4th Kwanakijima (Takeda vs Kenshin) for it. It is at the Chipco Yahoo group or I can email it to you (if interested). I happily recommend them. Bushi also looks pretty good. i have toyed with getting Taiko buy can't decide. i would also suggest picking up all of Brian Bradford's Killer Katana's supplements (as well as the rules). I think his rules are decent but at a lower scale than I would have wanted. But is info and scenario's are top rate! They are available from Brookhurst.

John, thank you for correcting me! I don't know what I was thinking, except that it seems I haven't kept their various rules straight. Too many pdf's!

I hear you Christopher. They have a ton of rules and the majority do have the Morale Clock. Pretty cool mechanism.

Thanks,

John
