I'm starting to work on my army (or armies) for When the Navy Walked, and decided to start by building a couple of walker vehicles for that Victorian Science Fiction Game. I found two good candidates, both in the clearance section, and with a minimal amount of work, they are ready to be painted.

This is a work in progress, but I've done a write-up on how I'm doing this on my blog:

Thanks for looking! Comments welcome.

I was going to ask what the figures were but of course the link to your blog told me all I needed -so I off to find that Ben 10 robot (thats the look I prefer) and load up on 4mm "googly eyes" (yes I've use the hole punch plasticard method but it strains my hand after a while).

Great idea! Especially the Ben 10 robot!

Very cool!

The NRG from Ben 10 just needs a boiler on the back and a metallic paint job.

I thought NRG had a ton of potential as well.

Okay a brief painting update on the Ben 10 figure. Now I have to figure out how to weather him.

Another update.

Almost done with this one, then I'll start on the other.

Seed beads dipped in white glue and applied with a toothpick make nice rivets.

Spaceman Spiff07 Feb 2012 9:29 p.m. PST

for weathering copper i'd try getting that tarnished Statue Of Liberty look by using a greenish wash. only around the rivets and seams, though. that way it would look like somebody tried to polish up the bot, but was too lazy to really get into it.
i really dig these pulp sci fi bots. oh, another bit of advice: on the tall, lanky bot, i would cut that bit of extra plastic out of the pincers.

Okay, the HMS Argus is finished. Here's the final product:

@Spiff, I think I will try, but there is a surprising thickness to that plastic insert in the hand, almost as thick as the fingers itself. Bummer.

Nice!
