Who can recommend a good book on the "Battle of Borodino"?
It could also include the invasion of Russia as well, but the battle should be the main event. OOB if possible.
Thanks Bob

If there is only one that I would recommend and that is by

Alexander Mikaberidze
The Battle of Borodino: Napoleon Against Kutuzov. London: Pen & Sword, 2007. 276 pages. ISBN-13# 9781844156030.

A good book to have alongside Alexander Mikaberidze's excellent title is 'Borodino The Moskova by E.g.Hourtoulle' published by Histoire & Collections. George Nafziger's Napoleon's Invasion of Russia is also well worth considering, although he only employs one chapter on Borodino.

If you plan to paint the units and game the battles then the Hourtoulle book is the one, but otherwise Mikaberidze wins hands down!

"Borodino, The Moscova: The Battle for the Redoubts
by F. G. Hourtoulle"

I read it (in French) when I was visiting my father last Christmas. This book is very good for its uniform plates! There are also several beautiful illustrations.

The book doesn't describe the battle with lots of details (the battle story represents 1/3 of the book approximatively), and there are long/accurate descriptions of the forces in presence. The maps are sometimes a tad confusing, but this is true for the whole Hourtouille series.

So sum up, very good illustrations, focusing more on the armies than on the battle itself.

Mikaberidze for me too. Best I have ever read. When you are done look at his Berezina book
