Andrew, then you must have VERY trusting club members! I was once in a wargames club whose treasurer emigrated to Texas with the club funds. Until then we'd been the best of mates and we didn't have the slightest inkling that he would ever do such a thing. However, we did have the inestimable satisfaction of discovering that he was later stabbed by a Texan (and our efforts to secure the services of a hitman were never proved). What you describe is actually illegal in the UK as a result of various anti-money-laundering laws. If your club has a bank account it cannot be held by an individual and must instead be held by a properly-constituted committee with elected officers and club rules/constitution – a copy of which will be held by the bank. TBH we discovered that it was much easier to split the cost of hall-hire equally between those present (allowing a free first month for new members) and pay the owner on the night. There is then no need for any of the above. |
