In an "asymetrical" warfare scenario, are you willing to play the side of the insurgents? |
joekano | 07 Jan 2012 10:26 a.m. PST |
No prob – it's no different than playing the natives in a colonial era game |

I would of course call them freedom fighters for the duration of the game. x42 |

Yup – the 'right side' is always the side I am on |

Yes
and delight as they pop like little lead balloons :) I like playing the bad guys and don't mind losing (not that I often have a choice). |
Dropzonetoe | 07 Jan 2012 10:41 a.m. PST |
I have no problems playing any side of conflicts. I'm playing a game. |

Absolutely. Playing poorly trained militia/insurgents can be a fun challenge. |
vtsaogames | 07 Jan 2012 10:59 a.m. PST |
Sure, as long as it's not too modern for my tastes. I could see Algerians vs. French, for instance, or the Viet Minh. |
ComradeCommissar | 07 Jan 2012 11:01 a.m. PST |
Yes, and in my Cold War gone hot games the insurgents are Americans. |
Angel Barracks | 07 Jan 2012 11:09 a.m. PST |
No problem with that here. |
CPT Jake | 07 Jan 2012 11:12 a.m. PST |

I don't have to endorse the ideological views of a faction in a game in order to play them. |

Yes, of course. A great way to get into their mindset, and think up some new tactics, which is required to learn to deal effectively with them. |

I'm not that happy playing ultra-modern games on either side. Were I to play, I'd play either side. |

They're the Orks of the modern world and get to run around in technicals, what's not to love? |
Martin Rapier | 07 Jan 2012 2:32 p.m. PST |
Yes of course, one persons 'insurgents' are someone elses freedom fighters. |
CmdrKiley | 07 Jan 2012 2:46 p.m. PST |
As I say every time someone see's me playing WWII Germans (because the other guy want's to play allies). "Somebody's got to play the bad guys!" |
Dynaman8789 | 07 Jan 2012 2:58 p.m. PST |
Yes – heck, I even play the Nazis
EDIT – I refused to play the "terror" mission from MW2. |
Sumo Boy | 07 Jan 2012 5:20 p.m. PST |
Of course. And it's always fun to swap sides and play the scenario again from the other POV if there's time. |

Zelekendel | 07 Jan 2012 7:15 p.m. PST |
Dynaman, why? You don't have to shoot any civvies in that level. You do have to shoot the russian SWAT though. |
Dn Jackson | 07 Jan 2012 7:21 p.m. PST |
I don't play anything real from Vietnam on. Too many friends and family involved. Prior to that, yes. |

"Were't the colonial Americans, and French during WWII Insurgents?" Yep! |
goragrad | 08 Jan 2012 12:38 a.m. PST |
Which insurgents? But, ultimately, it will just be a game. |

Tgunner | 08 Jan 2012 7:49 a.m. PST |
I don't really like to "play" them. Insurgents are a special force that need special rules to run them. I prefer them to be ran by the game mechanics so they can have their dirty tricks like surprise ambushes. IEDs, snipers, secret moving, and so on. It makes for a much more fun game to me. |
Klebert L Hall | 08 Jan 2012 11:18 a.m. PST |
Sure. Most wars have jerks on at least one side, I'll play anyone. -Kle. |
