Unless I'm not looking properly, I can't see anything that covers the period of the First (or indeed the second) Barons Wars in Osprey's catalogue. Assuming I'm right, can anyone recommend please an Osprey type reference book for the period? I'm looking for the usual Osprey type mix of simple narrative with colour plates. Thanks chaps (and chapettes) |

Can you say that to my wife please? Those two words aren't often spoken in this house. Cheers for link – that's the only one I've really seen on Amazon, would want to have a skim through it though before coughing up for it first. If anyone has it would be interested to hear what they think of it? |

You could try Osprey's "English Medieval Knight 1200–1300" link |

I have the Osprey's "English Medieval Knight 1200–1300" It is good for getting an idea of what knights wore in the 13th century, but is light on history. You can download some books EG: link For pics of french soldiers of the 13th century, just Googlesearch 'Maciejowski bible'! Hope this helps? |

I think that the common footsoldier would look about the same early in the 13th century and later on in the same century. To me the bigger change would be in the knight's armor. Cloth barding on horses would be more commonplace towards the mid 13th century vs. early. Also, the helmets would be a lot different. Early wold still see a few nasals, flat top helms with and without facemask, kettle helms, and maybe a few early great helms. I think it would be easy to build two armies sharing the foot and just swapping out the knights to cover early vs. mid or late 13th century. Just my opinion. Allen
