Vox populi vox editor Well hoi polloi, should they? I feel that certain sponsors are gaming the News system to the detriment of its intended mission. What say you? Yes, this is getting out of hand. No, I like seeing each product individually Eh, Bill's house
Latin abused me as a child. No opinion. |

No, I like seeing each product individually. Sorry for the lack of a pithy comment, but my Latin is poor. |

I'd leave it to the editor's discretion. |
Angel Barracks | 06 Jan 2012 9:07 a.m. PST |
I do think that were I to post 70 seperate news items about 70 new individual dice instead of 1 post mentioning the whole range of dice people would think differently about saying it was fine. I could quite easily take up hundreds of slots worth of news and stop other companies from advertising for a week or so. |
epturner | 06 Jan 2012 9:07 a.m. PST |
Vox populi, Vox Humbug. Let Fearless Leader decide. Although I do agree with Geoff from ORF in this case. Eric |
teboj17 | 06 Jan 2012 9:09 a.m. PST |
Yes, though if they have different ranges they would be able to post separate items. Though I think if we limit this then someone is going to cry censorship. |
John the OFM | 06 Jan 2012 9:09 a.m. PST |
Bill's pocketbook, Bill's rules. The peanut gallery should have no voice in the matter. |
Angel Barracks | 06 Jan 2012 9:12 a.m. PST |
Censorship on a private owned and run forum is perfectly fine. I censor things in my house and guests have to accept that, same principle here. |
richarDISNEY | 06 Jan 2012 9:13 a.m. PST |
Nope. Let them have their day(S)
Its a good way for folks to see the new product.

Jerrod | 06 Jan 2012 9:30 a.m. PST |
It is not an exaggeration though. great, point me to somebody who has done that then? Separate products, separate news, whats the big deal? Didn't I post that in the (private) Sponsors forum? |
Angel Barracks | 06 Jan 2012 9:32 a.m. PST |
Yes, though it was not a private message it was a public message. However point taken and post with quote deleted. Apologies. I tried to reply to your PM, but you have them switched off. :( |

I think they should be ALLOWED to post as many as they think is prudent and if they get out of hand, I'm sure folks will remind them in their typical, soft-spoken and understated way that perhaps at times less is more. Trouble is though they may go overboard and post so many that other companies can't get their news on the front page at all. Or special timed news may be out of date when it does eventually get posted. Though of course there is also the issue with which slots the news takes up, A, B and C and what priority and so on.. Not that it bothers me, my news goes on and comes off again. I am very happy with the spacing and time my news was on the Hobby News for.

Jamesonsafari | 06 Jan 2012 9:56 a.m. PST |
Angel Barracks and QRF have good points. I don't think anyone pays for being a News item, so it may be abusing the system. |
Editor in Chief Bill | 06 Jan 2012 10:04 a.m. PST |
I think you're just seeing what happens when one company has several announcements on an otherwise very slow news day. (I spaced the BF announcements at four-hour intervals
) |
20thmaine | 06 Jan 2012 10:09 a.m. PST |
I dare say though that if AB did submit 70 news items about different dice then The Ed' could always PM AB and say "could you just squash this down into one press release
.otherwise when I stagger them it'll end up with news item number 70 not appearing for a couple of months". To which AB would doubtles respond "yes, fine, no problem". See how nice and amicable it is in my world ? |
link hunter 99 | 06 Jan 2012 11:44 a.m. PST |
I think you're just seeing what happens when one company has several announcements on an otherwise very slow news day. big mountain in very small tea-cup then? "Should advertisers be limited to one News post per day" so, no, bad thinking. Trouble is though they may go overboard and post so many that other companies can't get their news on the front page at all.
in real world this is not likely to happen and somebody would use there brain. stupid company to try that, would be a big negative and people would stop reading there news anyway, so very dumb thing to try. I think they should be ALLOWED to post as many as they think is prudent and if they get out of hand, I'm sure folks will remind them in their typical, soft-spoken and understated way that perhaps at times less is more. If the News system is seen by the customers to be abused by a seller, it would seem to me that it would be self correcting in that it could turn folks off who might otherwise buy. Just an opinion, no hard data available
yes all of that is correct. anf if a company is jealous of another with more news they should make more new things themselves and stop complaining. more news is good not less. |
Doms Decals | 06 Jan 2012 11:58 a.m. PST |
more news is good not less.
Assuming that more stories is more news. Two consecutive items today are "new tank" and "new box of 5 of that tank" – is that really "More News"
. |
Angel Barracks | 06 Jan 2012 12:05 p.m. PST |
Also, what is best for TMP. 10 news items from 1 company or 10 news items from 10 different companies? |
GreyONE | 06 Jan 2012 12:21 p.m. PST |
I like seeing all the products advertised. Its interesting to see what companies are producing. If I had 10 products to advertise I think I would like to see them up as soon as possible to help recoup my R&D and production costs. |

Nobody's arguing with that, but if you put out 10 new releases, in the same range, on the same day, 10 separate news stories seems, umm, overkill at best
. |
GreyONE | 06 Jan 2012 12:59 p.m. PST |
OK, I can see that. In the past, most manufactures did multiple releases within the same news item. Still, it doesn't bother me either way, although I tend to put all new products in one news release if possible. |
Angel Barracks | 06 Jan 2012 1:09 p.m. PST |
although I tend to put all new products in one news release if possible. Most of us do I think. Seems a bit like a micky take otherwise. |
Given up for good | 06 Jan 2012 1:35 p.m. PST |
Post them all I'm old enough to search new items and go back a day / week – with my memory I often do (do something now what was it – oh yes go back in the news). |
Yesthatphil | 06 Jan 2012 3:43 p.m. PST |
I dislike rules and regulations but I can't see why anyone would want to place more than one product a day. Perhaps we need a like/dislike button so people can express an opinion without being pilloried by any given fan base (then advertisers might see if they were pushing the envelope too far)
Or somne sort of feedback other than leaving the page (which affects all the good guys, too)

GeoffQRF | 06 Jan 2012 3:54 p.m. PST |
doesnt his company sell 15mm ww2 stuff also? About 600 packs of them. Plus another 600 postwar and modern. Does that give me individual 1200 news releases? :-) when one company has several announcements on an otherwise very slow news day That was really the question. As Dom pointed out, was it really several announcements, or one announcement split into several bits to get several news slots? |
FoxtrotPapaRomeo | 06 Jan 2012 4:12 p.m. PST |
no
why restrict them (I'm not a seller btw). If some prat goes ballistic (say with the 1200 messages in the one day), then editor can doghouse him for being an idiot. But sensible marketing would not necessarily be limited to one message a day. |
GeoffQRF | 06 Jan 2012 4:27 p.m. PST |
If you are all fine with that, I'll make sure our next block of new released are listed as separate items |

About 600 packs of them. Plus another 600 postwar and modern. Does that give me individual 1200 news releases? :-) The way things are working around here at the moment, yes. But only you'll have to take something that was released about four years ago and "spotlight" it on your website. Seriously Bill, you seem to have completely lost the ability to differentiate between puffery and news. |
link hunter 99 | 06 Jan 2012 6:32 p.m. PST |
seems like lots of fuss because one seller has his news kicked down the page by competitor. /sad. |

So if it is a slow news day then perhaps it might be a good idea to allow news from non-sponsoring companies (like it used to be before it was temporarily suspended)?? If the back-log of news has gone then open-up the criteria again?? |

GeoffQRF | 07 Jan 2012 10:55 a.m. PST |
So
. should this: TMP link Really be 50 separate news items? |
Ambush Alley Games | 07 Jan 2012 11:43 a.m. PST |
I think lumping related news stories together, such as "New WWII AFV Releases for January" is more effective and less jarring than five individual news stories about specific AFVs on the same day. But hey, if the new hot-tip is to fire barrages of news stories just to keep the brand in TMP's face, I'm sure the rest of TMP's advertisers will adapt. Watch the news page closely! Stories might only be up a few seconds at a time! Best, Shawn. |
Angel Barracks | 08 Jan 2012 3:02 a.m. PST |
Agreed. I have just sent a news item that has three 'products' in it. I sent it as one news item and not three seperate ones. Whilst I use a site that I share with other advertisers I will try to be courteous and not hog the limelight at the expense of other small companies. Could get bitchy quickly if it was all about getting the best exposure at the expense of others. I go to trade shows and being next to companies I pushed off the front page due to my over the top news submissions would not make for a comfortable event. Michael. |

The real "Vox Populi" is when you get tired of seeing a dozen different news items again and again from a company. Then your brain goes into auto-ignore. Then you finally decide you want that one thing they had and you can't find it in the flurry of posts. Then you don't buy it. I say let 'em have all the rope they want! I can even teach knot tying! :) |
