A quick question to the Wings of War group with respect to the WWI version

I played this for the first time recently and really like the game – but it seems to me that, weak google-fu perhaps, all the models are of mid to late war planes

While SPADS and Camels are all very nice, I must confess to having a long-time love of those clunky little pushers, like the Airco DH-2

So – are these available for Wings of War?

Not yet – the long long awaited Series 5 (possibly due in the spring, but breath-holding *really* not advised) will include the DH-2, as well as the Fokker E.III, Halberstadt D.Something (III or V, can't remember) and Morane Bullet.

If you don't mind a bit of assembly and painting, the Immelmann booster pack includes cards and decks for the E.III, E.IV, Morane and DH.2, so could be coupled with models from Skytrex, Reviresco, or a couple of Shapeway print-on-demand designers.

Thanks very much! This significantly increases my enthusiasm for buying Wings of War

No worries – be warned that the Shapeways stuff is still a bit of a formative technology – the Frosted Ultra Detail material is generally pretty good, but damned pricy. The White Strong and Flexible is much cheaper, but comes with a pretty rough finish (it's sintered nylon, so smooth ain't happening) – with half a dozen coats of future or gloss varnish it scrubs up well enough for me, but your mileage may vary…. On the other hand, you don't have to build 'em, so swings and roundabouts….

Thanks for the Shapeways links, never knew about those.

One of the card sets includes the DH2 and Fokker E-III cards for movement. Just can't remember which one. I was really looking forward to Series 5 but I'm not sure the new owners will actually ever produce anything. I've pre-ordered the Gothas but I'm not holding my breath for them.

The card set is called Immelmamm. Contains a couple eindeckers, moraine, and the Dh2. Nice but seems bizarre to me the the eindecker and Dh2 share the same deck and the moraine has a different deck. Surely that's backwards!

By the way, I got some Shapeways planes--about 12 of them--and none had the rough texture I had read about. Look very smooth, in fact.

The DH2 did fine against eindecker. Its real weakness was only one gun, a Lewis. It was the next generation, Albatross D3 that tore them up.
