A small opinion piece I wrote down on my blog, about the merits of the Heroclix range, often scorned, much woe`d
yet oh so handy link |

And they are great for an army of generics – police, villains, and the like. Might not be the best but you can't beat the price for a multitude of preprinted figs. |

Very good article. And also handy for Zombie gaming. The worse of the clix can make very good casualties, too. |

Indeed Mike, that`s an aspect I didn`t even thought about when writing it up *stares at his gangs of tugs* |

What I'd like to see is more simple tips to improve 'em. As a fan of Micro Machines starships, I've been heating/chilling warped vinyl for some time. However, and I haven't tried much, but even the most painting-challenged such as moi have to at least be able to tidy up the eyes and some paint slop with colored felt pens. The 'stare' must go! I find them really useful and some of the sculpts are quite nice. I've tried the hair dryer method, but they always seem to snap back in place after a few days or weeks. Now I will also try using a piece of metal (small pin, tack or paper clip) to help it hold it's shape. The only complaint I have is that some of them are too pricey in the secondary market for me. The Haloclix Grunts always seem to cost more than the elites and the Gears of War clixs go for more than they cost for the regulars ($2.99 USD for a 1 person blister, $4.99 and up for the same individuals) |

I agree as well, but people looking for haloclix to use in other games tend to drive up the price of uncommon/rare figs of limited use in their intended game because you need so many of them for any other game setting

Nice article. I agree with you that heroclix and other collectible figures can be a nice source for wargaming on a budget. I'm not much of a superhero fan, but I've rebased a bunch of figs for use as cops, gangers, civies, martial artists, survivors and such. They are dead-easy to convert and match well with the proportions of guns from reaper, Foundry and other less-heroic weapons. I also agree that for repainting, you can just paint over the existing paintjob, or use Gesso (has a nice natural flex to it) if you wish. The only thing that has kept me from using the many that I've accumulated or buying even more is the many deals I keep finding for used metal figures. |
