The promotional materials for The Army Painter system refer to someone who plays with unpainted figures as a "tin-man"? Are you a Tin-Man? |

Nope, not since I first started playing. When you played on the Tin Soldier's tables back in the mid 70's your figs had to be painted. Not necessarily well. Just painted. We'd get there and hour or two early before a game and furiously work on more units for our armies. Mine was a Custom Cast Dwarf army for our LOTR games. Pretty much kept to that concept ever since. Thanks, John |

Playing with unpainted figures???? I thought this was a child-friendly site. They should not be exposed to such blasphemous thoughts. |

Will not use a figure unpainted at all. Unbased? Maybe. Unpainted? Never. |

Personally, I find paint offensive (or is it because I'm a crap painter) so I guess I'm a Tin (actually mostly plastic) Man. |

Most certainly not
it does serve as a barrier to getting any games in though. |

I was under the impression playing with unpainted or undercoated figures was restricted to children and the games children tend to play. |

I sure do, and I'm proof of it! OK, not proud of it, just a really slow and poorly skilled painter. Stuck in the world of solo gaming doesn't help. |

I don't like to play with unpainted figures
and I never have time to paint
..so I don't have painted figures to play with
so I can't play because
.you see? Vicious anti tin-man related cycle. |

There has been occasions I have played with unpainted figures in my forces but not this millennium. I don't fuss to much if an opponent's isn't painted as I regard myself as a gamer not an art critic. x42 |

No, but I've been a primer man a couple of times. |

When we first started playing Johnny Reb in Peoria and the gang was collecting their initial forces, we had a rule about this. Well-painted troops = Elites; Painted = Veterans; Primered = Regular; and Unpainted = Green/Militia or something close to that. Amazing how fast those troops got painted! |

My introduction to using unpainted figures in a game were locally run GW events. Some never bothered to paint their armies. NEVER! I still wake up screaming and in a cold sweat in the middle of the night. *shudder* Al | ravenfeastsmeadhall.blogspot.com |

I'm normaly very libral, and anti death penalty, but playing with bare metal figures or bare plastic figures, should be punished not only with death but with toruture, think spanish inquisision type stuff, iron maden, hot pokers, comfy chairs ect, followed by a swith and humane buring at the stakes. |
Daffy Doug | 26 Dec 2011 2:25 p.m. PST |
No tin men allowed around here. I'm never that desperate for a game, that I'd allow a player to put down unpainted minis more than an introductory once. If he insisted, what would I do? Cancel the game on the spot. I have done this, until good behavior was resumed. I'd do it for inveterate tin men too

Gwydion | 26 Dec 2011 3:05 p.m. PST |
Depends whether its a minimalist post modern discourse or laziness – obviously the latter is okay – the former deserves untold punishments. |
Syrinx0 | 26 Dec 2011 3:20 p.m. PST |
Doesn't bother me if it's a new period we just started gaming. I usually substitute another similar painted unit as opposed to bare metal if I have not finished painting my forces. I won't run off if there is bare metal on the table while we are learning new rules and building our forces. |
