Hello all Slammer's fans!

I have uploaded the latest supplement (number 3) in PDF format to the Hammer's Slammers website PDF link The map for it can also be found on the site PDF link

In addition to this the Expanded Rules Index PDF link now takes account of all of the additions in both Supplement 2 and Supplement 3.

It also contains the scenario "Operation Night Crow" and a painting guide for speed painting the Lightning Division in 15mm by Kevin Dallimore.

As I have said elsewhere, this is probably the last supplement to the game system* so download and enjoy!

*I am still working on scenarios, though, which will probably be digital format (ie PDF) rather than print.

What not following the that classic tradition of a new set of rules every three years and force us to buy the supplements again as our current ones do not work?

Shame on you sir – shame

Other than baa-humbug moment – congrats on a very good set of rules and the pictures are some of the best I have seen.

Thankyou Andrew.

I (and the other original author John Lambshead) are just big fans of Drake's work (and – having met the man – a big admirer of Dave himself: he's a very interesting man to talk to!).

As the other John and myself are both wargamers too, we just wanted to give people the tools to play games in his universe and I for one hope that this approach is self evident in the product.

The Crucible was produced with efforts from gamers on both sides of the Atlantic (and they know who they are!) who are all fans as well and I'm very grateful to them.

I will continue to support this system in whatever way I can.

Have fun people!

Thanks John :)

For all your effort put into this over the last 7 plus years :)

This is for me and lots of others enjoyment at playing over that time in such a wonderful world that is the Slammers universe using your rules :)

Cheers Matt

Now this is a coincidence what are the chances of this happening, I also wanted to kitbash a Sci-fi style Gerpard AA tank as a friend of mine has a soft spot for ariel drones and I wanted to be prepared for him with a little surprise of my own just in case he chooses to go with his usual tactics, so I asked Jez from Old crow what he thought and asked him if it would be possible to cast me the 15mm TAC missile turret without the missiles and in their place send me on 2x side canons from the 25mm Point defence turret, well I'm pleased to say after a little bit of an adjustment the parts fitted perfectly and now I have also got a fantastic looking AA turret, now to choose which hover tank chassis to mount it on so that I can unleash hail and brimstone upon any air born drones…
@ John T I have been a massive fan of your work and Mr Dallimores painting skills in the Hammer Slammers universe ever since that special Salute issue of Wargamers monthly was printed about thirteen years ago now, I think we even had a little chat at the Salute David Drake attended, thanks for all the hard work you guys have put in.

Again – many thanks people! The pleasure is pretty much all mine!

As always, the updates for The Crucible are top notch. The book itself is a great blend of fictional background, rules, and fabulous pictures, making it a great coffee table book, even for non wargamers to take a gander at. You can't say that about many other rulebooks.

John Treadaway24 Dec 2011 1:57 p.m. PST

Again, thankyou F16.

With The Crucible it was always my intention to do something that looked as nice as possible that people could actually own and look at: PDF publishing, whilst it might make economic sense (especially for those who already own a £400 tablet computer or have access to a free colour copier at work) is not really my idea of an ideal approach for the main set of rules.

Design wise, it does help that – for many years – that's what I did for a living and I was very happy to have complete control over that with The Crucible (and it was nice [and trusting] of the publisher to grant me that).

And that's why I wanted to keep the supplements in the same vein, design wise, and – of course – the printed version of all three supplements has been available in the magazine.

Where can I buy the main book?

ARMY Strong12 Mar 2013 3:46 p.m. PST

John great update need to dust off the minis again and get back in.

John Treadaway12 Mar 2013 4:03 p.m. PST

@ Crimelord

link is the contacts page of the Slammers site I host but that's just rules and updates and free stuff.

But on that page is the link to Wargames Fever (AKA Pireme publishing who sell the book). I believe tis is the link to purchasing the book from the Publisher link

@ ARMY Strong: Thanks for the comments.

In the next copy of Miniature Wargames (as it also contains the Salute Show Guide and Programme) there are a couple of new optional rules to be published (along with pictures of the new 15mm Blower tanks from the new manufacturer and so forth).

The new optional rules will be Troops and Thunder Runs.

The former is an optional smaller unit size (forces in half size units led by a sergeant rather than full size detachments led by a lieutenent).

The latter is a new way of moving troops and vehicles using leadership when there is a clear path available (as in a commander ordering his men to just 'Steam on down the road and not stop until I tell you') which means that – in the right circumstances – a well led force can build up quite a speed on the right sort of terrain (like when you are on a 36ft long wargames table at a show with a big road down the middle of it…).

I'm sure that both optional rules in the article will be available for download on the web site sometime after publication in the magazine/programme.

I intend to keep up the useful add-ons when people ask for them!
