the rules get dumber and dumber with each rewrite, and the prices got higher and higher to where you have to be very dumb to pay them. |

Balance between the model $/pts. Even in 40k, the new Necrons are nerfed and have their pts reduced so you have to field many more models. |

I've only ever tried 2nd and 3rd
which I like, for what they are. My only issues, which aren't peculiar to Warhammer, are the tightly ranked troops in a setting rife with AOE battle magic
and aerial assault units
and artillery. I'm also beginning to think that 15mm is a better scale for big battles like that
much as I love the old Citadel sculpts maybe it would be cheaper/easier/more fun to play the game with Demonworld/Splintered Light/etc. |

but nothing they actually sell anymore? |

I try not to hate anything, but I was too impressed by the rules, especially morale. What bothers me more is the whole chaos thing. Its a little bit too disturbing for me. |

It's a dreadful combat system. Utterly counter-intuitive. (My ballistic skill is a 3, so I need a 4 to hit! But yours is a 4, so you need a 3 to hit!) and so on. |

If you get beyond all of the above, which I agree to, for the most part, the real reason I hate WH is: All the times I have rolled 20 dice for hits, scored 3, wounded 2, and they both save. "Why did I just go through that?", I think to myself. |

I dont hate it,but around hardcore players, youre either in or out, nothing else is worth their time.I've moved on from 40K/FB.That being said,I still play ECW and Ancients. |

I don't really like the wheeling. That was one thing that made Warmaster really stand out as the better game in my mind. That and the simplicity of the magic system. |
Big Ian | 09 Dec 2011 12:11 a.m. PST |
I am in agreement with most of the above comments, however for me I think that is a tired system which needs to be radically changed. I really liked Warmaster rules as they allowed for larger battles IMO and greater tactics. The skulls on everything is a bit daft as well

Doesn't scale up so you can't use the system for large scale battles. The mechanics are tied to man to man combat. Units do move differently than individual warriors but once you get into combat every figure still represents an individual warrior. I mean sure, you can build every unit at double size -- 8th edition more or less does that compared to 6th edition -- but you can't really go much bigger than that, because the casualty removal starts getting cumbersome. Whereas a game based on abstracted figure scale -- elements basically -- can go bigger just by saying the figures are 1:100 versus 1:10 or 1:30. |
