According to Andrew Kendrick, writing in White Dwarf:

Ask anybody what they love about Warhammer and two things that are bound to be on their list are monsters and magic.

So… what do you love about Warhammer?

Connard Sage08 Dec 2011 12:53 p.m. PST

Nothing :)

Pictors Studio08 Dec 2011 12:57 p.m. PST

I love the Ogre Kingdom models, they are great. I think they are the best figs currently being produced by GW for the fantasy game.

I like the Chaos stuff too, they have some really interesting and characterful monstrosities in there and I love that you can get so many of their figs in plastic.

Angel Barracks08 Dec 2011 1:00 p.m. PST

Nothing.
I love my wife and daughter.

I do not love a fictional game setting.
Can't say I like much about it anymore either, though I did about 20 years ago when I played WFB and WFRP

Garand08 Dec 2011 1:30 p.m. PST

Talking strictly about the fantasy game, I love that I can get a game occasionally where I don't have to supply all the figures, and the figures themselves are usually pretty nice. Expand this to 40K, then all of the above, plus the fluff…

Damon.

Little Big Wars08 Dec 2011 1:31 p.m. PST

Assyrian Evil Dwarves; the monsters and magic are nothing new.

nickinsomerset08 Dec 2011 1:45 p.m. PST

The old hang gliding dwarfs generally lots until about 1990!

Tally Ho!

highlandcatfrog08 Dec 2011 1:52 p.m. PST

The fact that I am not legally required to play it.

Tom Reed08 Dec 2011 1:54 p.m. PST

All the Slaneeshi goodness…er, um.

GoneNow08 Dec 2011 2:00 p.m. PST

I used to love that is was a fun, silly, over the top fantasy game. Now I love that I can still play older editions.

Mick A08 Dec 2011 2:10 p.m. PST

3rd edition…

Mick

Buff Orpington08 Dec 2011 2:16 p.m. PST

No shortage of opponents.

SonofThor08 Dec 2011 2:30 p.m. PST

I've only played 3rd ed. but I was never impress with the rules. I do like the minis though. Dwarves are my fave with goblins as a close second. I'm not a huge fan of the Elves like I was when I was a kid but the Wood Elf Wardancers were cool.

I'm more of an Oldhammer fan, "the only army lists you need are your own."

Cardinal Hawkwood08 Dec 2011 2:33 p.m. PST

nuth'n

fitterpete08 Dec 2011 2:36 p.m. PST

Funny those are the two things I could really do without in Warhammer. My armies are usually all about troops and some warmachines.

CeruLucifus08 Dec 2011 2:40 p.m. PST

No shortage of opponents, high quality figures.

Monsters and magic only in that I like to play fantasy and without that it's just alternate history. Okay and other races too.

Actually magic and monsters are what I dislike in WFB. I like the fantasy setting, and used to play Empire in the 90ies – but the discrepancy between the numbers (and efforts to build and paint) of units vs. single monsters actually made me abort the game.

Feet up now08 Dec 2011 2:53 p.m. PST

I can go to a town miles away in uk or another country and play a game in their shops. Also agree on the ''No shortage of opponents''1

Roosta08 Dec 2011 3:07 p.m. PST

I started war gaming with Warhammer/40,000. Still play, not as often as I used to. The kids have grown up. I think the price is making them unpopular in the gaming world. Paul

Deeman08 Dec 2011 3:11 p.m. PST

That all my friends play it…or did play it until the most recent addition.

J Womack 9408 Dec 2011 3:14 p.m. PST

I like that it is easy to play.

Roderick Robertson Fezian08 Dec 2011 3:20 p.m. PST

The hype. I love good over-the-top hyperbole advertisements about how this or that figure is the "Best. Figure. Evar!"

RobH08 Dec 2011 3:36 p.m. PST

That it has been around long enough to spawn a huge selection of figures that can be used in other much better games.

Also that without Warhammer (or 40K) there could not have been Mordheim (or Space Hulk)

jpattern208 Dec 2011 3:37 p.m. PST

Love the fluff, especially anything related to the Skaven.

M C MonkeyDew08 Dec 2011 4:47 p.m. PST

"I used to love that is was a fun, silly, over the top fantasy game."

What Tinyminis said.

wrgmr108 Dec 2011 5:37 p.m. PST

Never went there…
Never will….

Jakse37508 Dec 2011 5:43 p.m. PST

goblin fanatics.

Mister X08 Dec 2011 6:03 p.m. PST

Like Angel Barracks, I love my wife and children.
I like goblin fanatics a great deal, and playing giants as well. Black orks in heavy armor with two hand weapons are very nice too. Ok, orksies.

Jay Arnold08 Dec 2011 7:14 p.m. PST

The world they've created. I've been working on a Mordheim/Empire in Flames adventure campaign for my group and have been having a blast.

I also enjoy the earlier (3rd edition/Realms of Chaos era) chaos figures. Tons of character. A little goofy in comparison to the newer stuff, but much, much more endearing to me.

elcid109908 Dec 2011 7:28 p.m. PST

I love that it get kids building and painting models, reading books, playing games and interacting with friends.

Goblin Fanatics!

(And the originals are the best figures evah!)

GypsyComet08 Dec 2011 8:55 p.m. PST

"Monsters and magic"

The assumption that these are on everyone's list goes a long way toward explaining GW's product line releases over the last two years.

Sane Max09 Dec 2011 3:45 a.m. PST

Ask anybody what they love about Warhammer and two things that are bound to be on their list the smell of stale sweat and shouty enthusiastic virgins.

I used to love it, then realised it was simply 'cos my opponents were great guys and I could have just as much fun playing other things as well.

Not played it in about 5 years now.

Pat

Eclectic Wave09 Dec 2011 8:12 a.m. PST

The RPG (original Version)

Scorpio09 Dec 2011 8:55 a.m. PST

Gotta go with the fluff. It was best refined in Mordheim, but when it's done right, it's a pretty nice setup for adventures.

corporalpat09 Dec 2011 9:19 a.m. PST

Absolutely nothing.

ArchiducCharles09 Dec 2011 9:19 a.m. PST

The Realm of Chaos books.
The old 80s, early 90s chaos figures.

The fluff.

Ratbone09 Dec 2011 9:54 p.m. PST

I love the easy to modify plastic figures. These days everything is plastic. I'm almost annoyed when I deal with a hard to modify metal fig nowadays.

Agree with above, love the Ogre Kingdoms stuff, it's so great I've had an army of them for almost a year without actually painting or playing them. Just can't live without them.

Along those lines, any of the figures that don't take themselves so seriously are wonderful. This lets out all the various elf incarnations, and most of the chaos stuff because it lacks the fun personality of most of the orcs, goblins, ogres, etc.

yorkie o110 Dec 2011 2:49 a.m. PST

Space Hulk, and Epic.

Dice Monkey10 Dec 2011 3:26 a.m. PST

There was a time when my gaming group proudly donned our fez's and engaged in three day tournaments across the continent while intoxicated. That was before the dark times, before 8th edition.
