The Stikks are formally known to the Federation as the Entomals, but Federal soldiers thought they looked like stick insects, and the name stuck. Their heads may have some superficial resemblance to stick insects but they are fast moving and aggressive, fighting like ants more than stick insects.

picture

The basic building block of the Stikks is the infantry pod -- three triads, each triad made up of one soldier with a fully automatic gauss cannon and two soldiers with the standard infantry gauss rifle. These will be sold in a pack of ten unique poses, as shown here.

picture

Pod support is supplied by the double gauss cannon, and the light infantry mortar. The pack will have the two different weapons, and five weapons crew in three poses.

picture

For heavy-duty infantry support the Stikks use the Crikket Infantry Cannon, a gyro-stabilised synth which walks on its own when nudged very slightly by its Stikk crew. It can fire either armour piercing or high explosive rounds.

picture

It should not be surprising that the Stikks take to the skies as well -- here is their Odonate Gunship, the most maneuverable gunship in known space. It is heavily armed with twin gauss cannons as well as both antitank missiles and anti-personnel rockets. Though small it is well-protected and very hard to hit.

The Stikks were sculpted in 15mm scale by Mike Lovejoy, and were painted by Chris Yaro. Everything here is solid pewter, even the Odonate gunship! The gunship does not supply a flight stand. Although it should be noted that the craft has landing skids so can be placed on the table, as it so closely resembles a dragonfly we assume gamers will definitely want to depict it flying! Chris has used an acrylic flight rod and a plastic base.

Available very soon indeed, stay tuned!

Now THAT'S the kind of weaponry Aliens should have! None of it looks like it was made on Earth*.

Awesome. Stunning. Bravo sir.

These remind me off an old 80's comic, kind of fun.
grin

clkeagle30 Nov 2011 7:37 p.m. PST

Those are brilliant! By far one of the best looking intelligent bug races we've seen. And… how big is that gunship?

-Chris K.

khurasanminiatures30 Nov 2011 7:41 p.m. PST

Chris, it is 2 3/4" long.

AVAMANGO30 Nov 2011 8:09 p.m. PST

Ahhh rubs hand together the perfect mercs for my SPUG empire, i am really pleased your be added these to khurasan miniatures inventory but you just got to stop getting all these fantastic miniatures made its just not fare on us weak willed folk…..

BlackWidowPilot Fezian30 Nov 2011 8:25 p.m. PST

Jon, these harken back to the Dreenoi from Starguard, plus all the other "ant men" aliens of my childhood comic book days! evil grin

Fire ants with laser guns? I LIKE IT!!evil grin

Leland R. Erickson

khurasanminiatures30 Nov 2011 8:36 p.m. PST

Leland, you just reminded me of something when you mentioned the Dreenoi -- the Stikks actually have six limbs. Their middle limb set is vestigial.

captainquirk30 Nov 2011 11:09 p.m. PST

AweSOME!!!

Vis Bellica30 Nov 2011 11:27 p.m. PST

More money coming your way as soon as they are released!

Brilliant work.

Wolfprophet01 Dec 2011 1:35 a.m. PST

Oh wow…. I so was not expecting anything like that at all. Just…

Mind = Blown.

Dragon Gunner01 Dec 2011 2:30 a.m. PST

Good lord better and better

sharkbait01 Dec 2011 4:06 a.m. PST

I like them, but I really love the gunship! It's just plain cool.

alien BLOODY HELL surfer01 Dec 2011 4:07 a.m. PST

man I thought it was going to be the band :-(

they are great – I like the alien flyer – I am currently converting a couple of pound shop large platic toy wasps and bugs (about a foot long each) into flyers/dropships for my spugs.

I can see a force of these being added to my growing 15mm sci-fi collection :-)

Sloppypainter01 Dec 2011 4:35 a.m. PST

Makes me want to reach for a can of Raid spray! Nice stuff. I really like the dragonfly with attitude!

wminsing01 Dec 2011 5:24 a.m. PST

Man, how do you keep coming up with such great stuff?

-Will

Eli Arndt01 Dec 2011 5:47 a.m. PST

This is another cool release. These aliens tread a nice line between pulpy weirdness and just plain alien. They are humanoid enough to still be accessible to the human mind but are still more than just rubber suit aliens.

I am still trying to get my head around their tech, but I cannot say that is a negative comment. I'm just trying to figure out how it works and that is just my mind at work. It looks like each weapon is different incorporating both biological and mechanical parts in similar, but not identical configurations.

Do the Stikks make their weapons on an individual basis? Is the weapon at the core of what looks like some sort of goo a standard design that each customizses?

Inquiring xenophiles want to know!

-Eli

nothing01 Dec 2011 6:04 a.m. PST

Just awesome. A fairly complete alien force at launch..sweet!

Eclipsing Binaries01 Dec 2011 6:16 a.m. PST

I love those. They are perfect!!! Now I really need to get some spending cash together.

(I make fun of others)01 Dec 2011 6:37 a.m. PST

As MST3k said so well….

If you're wondering how he eats and breathes
And other science facts,
Just repeat to yourself "It's just a show,
I should really just relax"

khurasanminiatures01 Dec 2011 7:03 a.m. PST

Actually Eli the two guns are dolly parts so unless Mike Lovejoy modified them, and I don't think he did, they should all be identical.

In fact, to tie the look together better, the heavy gauss cannons on the "MG" mount and on the Odonate gunship are the dolly part as well.

Whilst they were designed as advanced slug throwers (gauss guns), naturally they can be whatever you fancy.

arngrimson01 Dec 2011 7:10 a.m. PST

Aaarrgh! I need to win the lottery to keep up with all the cool new aliens coming out…

I can't afford them all ..but I want/need them all.

mad monkey 101 Dec 2011 8:05 a.m. PST

Will there be a apc/tank for these bodacious bugs?

khurasanminiatures01 Dec 2011 8:21 a.m. PST

Yes, the Stikks have an extremely unique vehicle that serves as both a tank and APC-equivalent for them, called the Skuttker. I had timed it for release alongside the rest of the models but some production issues came up. It will be out though, I guess in the new year.

dandiggler01 Dec 2011 8:43 a.m. PST

Yeah, these are a must have for me. You, sir, are a genius.

ThorLongus01 Dec 2011 9:51 a.m. PST

fantastic…. and chris yaro, wow
you really got your moneys worth, Jon
that paint will help sell buckets of lead

Eli Arndt01 Dec 2011 10:40 a.m. PST

Jon,

It may just be the angles and how the rest of the figure covers parts of the guns, but on certain ones it looks like the barrel is more exposed from the "slime" than the others of the same kind or that the big ball at the back is biggers, etc.

Not a big deal, but was just curious ifi t figured int othe fluff you had developed.

-Eli

Wolfprophet01 Dec 2011 11:19 a.m. PST

"As MST3k said so well…."

Screw MST3K's thoughts on just about everything. I actually enjoy when a creator of a fictional race comes up with a way for them to work, details on their society, biology, etc. Even if it sounds impossible, we can either accept it, knowing that a creature born on another planet could, and likely will completely defy all of our current knowledge on anatomy and physiology. Do I expect them to go to such lengths however? No! Not at all.

Anyone else think these could make decent proxies/stand-ins for Chigs from Space Above and Beyond?

(I make fun of others)01 Dec 2011 11:27 a.m. PST

Ten hours in the Tough Love Seat for that comment, I'm afraid.

Eli Arndt01 Dec 2011 11:30 a.m. PST

I agree Wolfprophet. As long as the PSB is cool, I don't mind it and in fact enjoy it. From a minis standpoint, I also like it when such fluff stuff is used for good and not to hinder, route, or mandate purchases or product development.

If by proxy you mean stand-in yes. they obviously bear no resemblence to the aliens from the show, but if you need a bug with a gun to fight, they seem to be your thing.

These are great… i'm not usually someone who puts together alien forces (although I do like painting small numbers as characters), but these are calling to me!

john lacour01 Dec 2011 11:43 a.m. PST

great looking!

BlackWidowPilot Fezian01 Dec 2011 12:32 p.m. PST

Jon,

one more thing, as one who lived in The Lone Star State and experienced the "welcome" of a particular species of Texas fauna known as the "Fire Ant," I am especially appreciative of the bright red color scheme you chose for the Stikks… evil grin

Leland R. Erickson

(1st thought: My entire lower leg has just been hit by a dozen burning cigarettes…

2nd thought: OW!! Goddammitt!! OW!!)

khurasanminiatures01 Dec 2011 2:22 p.m. PST

Actually Leland there was a lot of fretting about what colours to paint them before we settled on this. Chris was reluctant to paint them red because he had just painted a caldor army, whatever that is, presumably something red. grin. I proposed green with grey armour, but the result on the test figure was most disappointing. I suggested red might make the models "pop" more, so Chris tried it out and the results were good, and there you have it.

By red ants, do you mean FIRA? Nasty business they are.

AWuuuu01 Dec 2011 3:06 p.m. PST

Myrmica rubra !!

I love those fellows.. Especially command Ant !!
Man is he making hail Ant queen salute ? :>

Wolfprophet01 Dec 2011 5:24 p.m. PST

"If by proxy you mean stand-in yes. they obviously bear no resemblence to the aliens from the show, but if you need a bug with a gun to fight, they seem to be your thing."

Stand-ins more or less. Proxy also works as a description though. ;) A proxy doesn't have to be a "Not-" model. But the idea of an intelligent bipedal race with loads of weapons that are themselves….alive, even if bio-mechanical instantly made me think of the chigs.

"Ten hours in the Tough Love Seat for that comment, I'm afraid."

I have to say, I just didn't like MST3K. Worse yet, I know people who've seen it and because they watched that, it gave them bad perceptions of good shows, making them more closed minded to the thought of watching them, which has made me like MST3K even less.

Barks101 Dec 2011 6:30 p.m. PST

So in the first photo, are the automatic weapons the 2nd and 4th on the top row, and the 1st on the bottom row? I can't really spot much of a difference.

I'm looking forwards to seeing the AFV- I love the eyes of the gunship.

khurasanminiatures01 Dec 2011 6:48 p.m. PST

That's exactly right, Barks. It has an exhaust sink on the side, a hole. It also has larger moulding than the normal rifle.

Fact is, it's not really that easy to distinguish the SAW from the normal infantry rifles in today's armies. You can see the difference when they are in hand though.

Most interesting looking! Too fiddly for me to paint though!

Covert Walrus01 Dec 2011 11:13 p.m. PST

Works of genius – non-human, with a very non-human technology that still looks workable and sensible in the light of physics. Well done that man! dr pepper

khurasanminiatures02 Dec 2011 5:17 a.m. PST

Thanks and I'm sure Mike would appreciate that too.

BlackWidowPilot Fezian02 Dec 2011 12:40 p.m. PST

Jon,

do Stikks ever take service with the Jasmine Throne's Legion Etranger?evil grin

Leland R. Erickson

khurasanminiatures02 Dec 2011 1:09 p.m. PST

Now THAT is a possibility. You won't see creatures from dimension X (as it is called) in service of any creature from our dimension.
