They are basically Deep Ones with an exposed brain. Should be easy to convert.

Khurasan's Deep Ones look really close too, except no tails:

Just imagine them slowly coming out of this tranquil dark surface, to feast on the unsuspecting river people as they sleep:

But I do like the idea of something less humanoid (less prominent pectoral muscles) and more fish-like. Maybe closer to a grouper or gobi in shape, with a big mouth and remnants of a tail.

And I really like how the artist made the arms look more like mutated pectoral fins than the usual humanoid arms. Made it seem like a more evolved version of the handfish:

Perhaps, like tadpoles they lose the tails as they mature into Adult Deep Ones?

lol i loved this movie saw it twice ..those are great! i used to raise fish as well ..and i can tell you goby's are mean little fish ..the plumy tail and back fins mean this is my yard do not tread here heh heh
