A while back, in a fit of nostalgia, I rhapsodized on the Girder and PAnel building sets I played with when I was a kid. I loved building different stuff every time, and playing with Matchbox cars, little me, dinosaurs, etc.
To my surprise, I was told they were still in production!

So, here is a gift idea for Christmas. Both coming and going! grin

I didn't realise you were that old John that you played with dinosaurs. Were they good sports? Did they play fair? What rulesets did you have back then? ;-)

They got easily frustrated, what with the brain being the size of a walnut, and all that.

And when they get frustrated, they chomp. Which is why John no longer has his original girder and panel building sets.

I had no idea they were still in production. Unfortunately, I think my nephews are too young for them. But they are tempting. Fond memories of battles fought in the ruins, electric trains derailing and crashing into the walls, etc.

I had a set when I was a kid – only mine was a hand-me-down from my brothers and a lot of the panels were cracked. By now, the panels are probably completely done in.

I still ahve my set from the 60's back home. It was my most memorable Christmas as all I wanted was the "Motorized Girder and Panel, Bridge and Turnpike Building Set", from Kenner!

It survived by 3 kids, too!

I can understand how that would frustrate them. I hate playing with opponents who have small brains, too.

:)

I still have my set, too, although many of the girders were used in conversions through the years.

How well would these sets work for making 15mm/18mm terrain? Is it close to HO in scale?

Thanks,

Jeff

As I recall (it's been a long time) they fit very well into the 1/72 – HO – 15mm continuum.

I bought a couple of sets for my grandsons who have shown absolutely no interest in them. They'd probably be good for whipping up city blocks for the miniatures version of The Creature Who Ate Sheboygan. and the roads might be useful for car wars type games.

I think this product would be very useful for the bigger cityscape set up's…

Ten Fingered Jack25 Nov 2011 6:47 a.m. PST

I had them too but the girders were red. OFM ,you must indeed be "old"!

If only I could get it on Amazon UK – it looks great

I could do some 15mm shots later if people are interested.

I still have my Bridge set and the Airport set. I dug them up last year for my kids to see.

They immediately went back to the Lego sets they have.

Oh well.

artbraune30 Nov 2011 10:33 p.m. PST

These are advertised as being HO (1/87) scale. As I recall they were a great match.
