After a bit of convincing from me and a little experimentation on size, the Flag Dude now offers flags in 6mm and I can say first hand that they are every bit as impressive as his work in larger scales!! 6mm flags are $4 each, plus postage.

Angel Barracks24 Nov 2011 8:09 a.m. PST

Is that $4.00 for a single 6mm flag or a pack?

Any links at all sir?

HistoryPhD24 Nov 2011 8:11 a.m. PST

$4 per flag. Flags come already mounted on a pole suitable for 6mm and formed for "wind blown" look

$4 dollars a 6mm flag? Even mounted on a pole that's taking the Bleeped text.

HistoryPhD24 Nov 2011 8:17 a.m. PST

Wait til you see the quality

Blimey. Geek city!

And a swift pan (poorly lit and focused) over the Flag Dude's wares isn't convincing me to part with £2.50 for one 5mm flag. Then again, I am a salesman's worst nightmare.

Ceterman24 Nov 2011 8:45 a.m. PST

Connard,
Then don't buy em. I think they are the best flags out there & worth it!

Amen Ceterman! I think they're fantastic flags and it took some time to convince him to try it in 6mm. I'm really pleased with the results. And as Rick (the Flag Dude himself) said, no matter what the scale, the printing costs and time spent mounting them are the same as compared to the larger scales he already does.

VonBlucher24 Nov 2011 10:39 a.m. PST

I picked a few flags for my 1806 Prussians from Rick when he was in the area for the Toy Soldier Show in September.

I wanted to see them before I purchased any. I'm extremely
happy with the few I picked up.

I was also trying to talk him into attending Little Wars in April.
John

Rick, Little Wars on the schedule??

HistoryPhD24 Nov 2011 10:41 a.m. PST

Rick is always so helpful and great to deal with and everything I order arrives quickly and looks fantastic!

I've been buying 10mm flags from Rick by the shed load and am very pleased. His work is simply better than anything else I've found and at $4.00 per, is incredibly cheap when compared to how I value my time (assuming I could reproduce his results in any amount of time, which I doubt.).

HistoryPhD24 Nov 2011 1:15 p.m. PST

McKinstry, I agree. Try as I might, I can never get results that look half as good as Rick's. He's a wizard at this!!

Lord Raglan24 Nov 2011 2:18 p.m. PST

I can personally recommend "flagdude" flags, in my opinion these are the best miniature flags on the market.

Furthermore, Rick is a lovely guy to deal with and the delivery is super fast even to the UK.

I just wish there was some way to do the cloth flags in 6mm

I agree Raglan. I order several flags on Friday and I have them by Tuesday. Rick even produced a conjectural flag I designed.

Can they be purchased customised for each regiment? number, honors, etc? I would consider buying a hundred of them and doing a "reflagging" if so, as I could not justify the effort and cost for anything less-I can do pretty well on my own computer, but I can't do that level of detail in 6mm-I'd buy them if flag dude can.

HistoryPhD24 Nov 2011 6:44 p.m. PST

Well, I know he can photoshop, but whether he can customize each flag, I'm not sure. I know he does have many specific flags for exact regiments. Best policy is to ask him. His email is on the website

Evil Bobs Miniature Painting24 Nov 2011 7:13 p.m. PST

He makes my job much simpler. My time is well worth the money he charges. I hate making flags and they never seem to look as nice.

VonBlucher24 Nov 2011 7:20 p.m. PST

Can they be purchased customised for each regiment? number, honors, etc?

Check out his Website, His does the Later French Flags with numbers & honors, in 15mm and 25mm.

Lord Ashram24 Nov 2011 10:02 p.m. PST

I've seen a few reflagging missions in my life using Rick's flags… Here is a blog entry with some photos of one of the shipments for one of them!

A pity I'll say, the stupidity beggars definition….

Bottom Dollar24 Nov 2011 10:25 p.m. PST

No offense Lord Ashram, I'm just venting.

I agree with the above, I am slowly changing all my 28 mm battalions, all 50+ of them, to Flagdude. The fact that the flags come on poles and already wrinkled is very useful, and they look great.

I always amazed that people equate value with price, they are just not related.

For me the Flagdude product is highly valued, so I am willing to pay the price. $6 for 28 mm flags is quite reasonable. You have already paid $50 USD+ for a 24 metal figure battalion, and then have put many hours in painting and basing them. $6 does not seem much to crown your effort.

I have no problem with the price, but at 6mm, I'm already creating them a pixel at a time on my own computer- I wonder if he can do any better- As far as the larger scales go, they look worth the money.

john lacour25 Nov 2011 3:15 p.m. PST

well, these are indeed very nice flags. having said that, the price is quite a bit more of an issue for this school teacher. i can fold my own hand painted flags and use the $ for figures i need. sorry, but thats alot…

155th NYVI07 Jan 2012 10:39 a.m. PST

I have purchased all my flags from rick and they are amazing. no flags compare to his, atleast as far as i have seen.

Grimbold27 Apr 2012 7:22 a.m. PST

Are you sure that FD does 6mm flags? As a result of seeing this thread, I went to Salute at the weekend specifically to get some 6mm Napoleonic Flags from FD and the guy running the stand said that they don't do 6mm.

In addition, the website doesn't quote a price for 6mm flags either – at least, not that I can see.

T J Crockett28 Apr 2012 10:46 a.m. PST

Third paragraph…6mm is the first listed

Lion in the Stars28 Apr 2012 2:40 p.m. PST

fraaaaaaack… those are gorgeous. So much for me printing my own!

Need some plain flags for 'scouted' markers, then the array of regimental flags and pennants.

Darkoath03 May 2012 5:28 p.m. PST

I buy Rick's 28mm flags for FIW and his 15mm flags for ACW. They really are the best flags available… no contest!

Darkoath03 May 2012 5:33 p.m. PST

You can also send Rick an email from his website… he gets back to you really fast…

le Grande Quartier General Supporting Member of TMP04 May 2012 7:26 a.m. PST

He makes really great flags. The best above 6mm in terms of artistic quality bar none. I would pay the money for his flags at 15mm and above gladly!

I would postulate that at the 6mm level, however, detail is only so usable beyond a point (the French regimental #'s being essentially unreadable to the naked eye without close magnification, for example) , and the fact that they are already on poles makes using them harder, in that it requires more fiddling than wrapping one around an existing pole. Pre-wrinkled is simple to do on your own with a small dowel. Having just reflagged 100 bns on a weekend for a price of less than 12 pounds quickly delivered to the US, the quality and ease of use of the Flags from Tiny Tin Troops is best for this scale in my opinion, and a real bargan given the very high quality. I wish I had a pic to include at hand to back my claim. I've tried other makers over the years, and they are the best fit and of the best quality (for Adlers at least) I've found (in my opinion). So, a plug for them from a satisfied customer.

PS-Tip from the weekends project- Use sharp med to small scissors and a magnifier to cut rather than a hobby knife. Faster, easier and works with the following- Find a glue that advertises you can let it dry and it will give you a Post-it surface, thin coat the back of the flags and let it dry 30 min before cutting them out and mounting.Still a perm bond at the size (low weight), esp if you coat with acrylic laquer, holds the wrinke, and is much more mistake-free than manipulating paper that is wet with PVC/white glue.
