Nice more of a sanctuary or refuge than a man cave, I'd agree. Looks like a rather peaceful retreat, save for those moments of table top battles. Best, Dean |

Very nice. I too, started with Airfix plastics, mostly WWI Germans and British. Before I even knew much about the war. |

I pity the later generations who didnīt start with Airfix (is there really anyone who DIDNīT start with Airfix???). I remember my "first time"- I was on an unauthorized trip to the attic and discovered a cigar box full of ancients. To the best of my memory, I think they were Romans and Britons, with some middle ages stuff mixed in. Ahhh, those were the days! Anyway, I enjoyed the tour Kevin, good luck with your blog. Btw, you have a great job! |

Nice! I'm looking for a good map cabinet also, but the ones I keep finding are A: Horribly expensive, B: Needs a forklift to move

36 cents a box they were too. I remember collecting coke bottles for 2-3 cent deposits and saving the pennies to get more guys. Then the artilery set came out ,, swear to god they were blue not that ugly brown red. Grampa would spray paint half of the crews grey and spray paint the guns brown |

I actually started wargaming with Britains 54mm plastic Guardsmen – I guess because they looked more like the figures in Charge! than anything else I had access to. But the first figures I painted were the Airfix Romans. Of course :) Where would we be without them? I agree with Texas Jack. Phil Steele soawargamesteam.blogspot.com |

Nice and much better than my basement space because of the window. Murphy I have had the same problem in map/blueprint cabinets. |

Thanks for the comments everyone. Yes I too had those Airfix packs – American Civil War, Guard's band, Romans and Ancient British, WW1 Brits and Germans. As for the flat file, it was left behind by the house's former owner. I had to lug it downstairs, but taking the drawers out first was a big help. Every so often you can come across a good deal at used office furniture warehouses. Digger. |

What I am finding with all these amazing blogs popping up is eerily similar stories
Guys who started with DIY gaming in the late 60s / early 70s period, who have gone on to live interesting and productive lives
and then rediscovered this amazing hobby later on. Thrilled by the vast ranges, easy access to new gear and information, and a true appreciation of how best to spend their time. It seems there are man caves popping up all over the world, where 40/50 somethings are making a splash on the gaming world, and passing on invaluable inspiration to the next generation of gamers. Old School is making a huge comeback ! I really must get some articles posted about my growing gaming den as well
its good to know that we are not alone, or completely mad :) 15mm-madness.blogspot.com |

Love the map cases when I worked at Beltsville Agricultural Research Center I found about a dozen up in the Attic of one building. I asked what they were going to do with them and was took property disposal office could not sell them although they had been listed several times. They were going to the dump and there was no way for an employee to get them now. They were the high quality ones made out of solid wood. VR James Mattes |
