According to the rulebook
The standard playing surface is a mat with a hex pattern, approximately 45 x 30 hexes
Do you use the standard board size for your Jet Age games? * I use the standard board size * I use a smaller board * I use a larger board * I don't play Jet Age |

I use a larger board. I picked up two Hotz Mats with 2" hexes for W.W. II games (European fields and blue). As I played more games I realized I needed more space in hexes when more than 1 aircraft was in the same hex. I went with a 3" hex, but got two mats, both European fields and use them side by side. The extra space is great for both W.W. II and Jet Air. I use 1/300 scale aircraft. |

I use larger. We actually use a hexagon shaped map with hexes, which corresponds to a hex on our home brew campaign map and system. Makes the sun edge and everything a bit easier. |

I don't use 1/285th-1/300 and haven't played the game yet so I couldn't comment. Yet. Robert |

1/300th use 1.5" 4'x6' Hotz though would prefer 2". More than large enough for WWII and frankly JA seems it would work fine on a 2" hex. Would have to use 2 3" hexes though this would be good for bombers and co-occupation situations. |
