With a lot of help from various mailing lists, I'm working on a fleet pack for the Battle of Koh Chang. I've already got the Thai Side (1:6000: shpws.me/3q0w 1:4800: shpws.me/3q0t 1:3000: shpws.me/3q0r 1:2400: shpws.me/3q0p) and am now working on the French.

First up, the Marne:

The Marne Class were built in the French 1916 War Programme. The first two in the class, Marne and Aisne, had two funnels, the others one. The Marne also had a more powerful turbine and greater displacement. The Marne participated in the French-Thai war in the Battle of Koh Chang. This model most closely follows the Marne. Thanks to Mark Hinds, Mal Wright, and the 1/6000 list for plans and guidance.

Here are some photos, some of which were supposedly taken at the battle of Koh Chang:

Marne firing:

French colonial sloops; Marne appears to be the most distant:

Same ships; Marne in the middle, and apparently Tahure at left:

Unknown ship, probably Charner or D'Urville; note shell casings:

There are SO many ships that were singles or small classes that no larger model company will ever make; you should make this your crusade!!

Hinds – Thanks!

History – I'll certainly try. :-)

Nice!

I received my 1:6000 scale Thai fleet pack from Shapeways a few days ago but haven't started work on them yet.

Looking forward to the French Koh Chang fleet pack.

Jake- Glad to hear it!

Next up:

The Bougainville class aviso (sloop) was designed for colonial service in the early 1930s. Eight were built and the served a number of posts in Asia and Africa. This model is based on the Amiral Charner, which saw combat in the Battle of Koh Chang.

Just released: Arras Class

Eleven boats of the Arras class were built as colonial sloops. This model is based on the Tahure, which, along with the Marne fought in the Battle of Koh Chang

History – I'm always willing to take suggestions for new ships. Just point me towards a schematic view of the ship (i.e. top and side view) and I will add it to the list!

thanks!

French Colonial Sloop Fleet:

French Avisos were originally small boats designed to carry dispatches and messages. Later, the classes were primarily used in Colonial service, proving support and showing the flag through Asia and Africa. They are considered equivalent to the modern sloop. This pack contains: 3x Arras/Tahure Class, Bougainville/Amiral Charner Class, 1x Marne Class

arodrig6: I dropped in on this post just to see what was happening – but it reminds me that I want MORE Spanish-American war in 1:1200 or similar scale!

arodrig611 Dec 2011 10:19 p.m. PST

Hesse: Thanks, I just released the New York (ACR-2), and have Brooklyn, Amphitrite, Monterey, Baltimore, Texas, Minneapolis and Columbia on my list. I'll try to do them all in 1:1200, 1:1800, 1:2400, 1:3000, 1:4800, and 1:6000

If there are any I'm missing, tell me. :-)
