The Warlords' Captain Scarlet game, based on the Thunder Road board game*, is taking shape and will be featured at Salute 2012.

The final board will be about 4.5m long and will 'switch' as vehicles progress down it.

The game:

Can Colonel White escort the World President to London Airport in a convoy of SPVs, SPCs and an MSV before Mysterons wreak their deadly havoc? Find out in Scarlet Thunder at Salute 2012

Set in the Gerry Anderson world of the TV series Captain Scarlet, this is a road race game with violence – though all in a good cause! Using an adaptation of the board game Thunder Road, this game will allow up to four players to try and beat the Mysteron threat and ensure that the World President and Spectrum commander in chief Colonel White make it all the way along the motorway to ‘London Airport'.

Using the Thunder Road's ‘rolling road' system, players will have control of their own Spectrum vehicles – the sleek Spectrum Patrol Car and the heavy, multi-wheeled Spectrum Pursuit Vehicle – and have the duty of escorting the heavily armoured Maximum Security Vehicle on their journey. Players have an individual task: in addition to protecting their President, Colonel White is about to retire and each player team wants to do well on this mission and so put themselves in a prime position to get his job!

The four player teams – Team Red (Captain Scarlet and Captain Magenta), Team Yellow (Captain Ochre and Captain Brown), Team Blue (Captain Blue and Captain Indigo) and Team Green (Captain Emerald and Lt. Green) have to negotiate slow moving traffic on their dangerous, high-speed mission but an added factor is also present. The Mysterons have vowed to kill the World President, destroy Spectrum and bring Earth to its knees in revenge for attacks on their home world.

During the game they will try and wrest control of Spectrum agents and their vehicles – even Spectrum helicopters – as well as civilian vehicles to try and achieve their terrible vengeance.

1. Great setup, looks like a blast

2. Where does one get and what names do the great vehicles go by?

3. All is lost…all is lost…all is lost…Warning Warning…a giant red Dalek has been sighted next to the toll collection center!

Looking great, love the vehicles. Is that a full size Darlek in the background of one photo?

Ta people

In order:

The vehicles are a collection of:

[red] Spectrum Patrol Car (Modern Corgi diecast – we have 4 for the game)

[Blue] Spectrum Pursuit Vehicle (Modern Product Enterprises diecast – we have 4 for the game – the Corgi ones that came out with the Patrol cars are 'fit the box scale' and about 25% too small being nearer 1/72nd)

[White] Spectrum Maximum Security Vehicle (45 year old Dinki diecast re painted more accurately – we have 1 for the game)

Various period diecast vehicles from all sorts of sources including Matchbox, Corgi and others, with drivers added where needed (so many come without a driver).

Buildings are Plasticville (there are more on the way). Boards are 2 inch thick pink foam blocks treated with PVA, sand and plackboard paint and then sponged in lighter colours with sprayed on (aerosol can through a mask) lines.

And yes – that is my full sized red Dalek. My mates (with litte help from myself) built three for a live roleplay game seven or eight years ago spacepatrol.werelords.com and link and mine lives in the conservatory.

We tell him it's a Kaled Dome on Skaro and he's none the wiser…

See you at Salute!

How did the Dalek roll his dice…..and did you let him win?

[Red Dalek and John Treadaway are playing the holographic game at the conservatory at the Kaled Dome on Skaro]

Red Dalek: Exterminate…Exterminate…Exterminate!

John: I made a fair move. Threatening to disintegrate me…and flailing about, it can't help you.

Davros: Let him have it. It's not wise to upset a Dalek…especially a Red one.

John: But sir, nobody worries about upsetting a Englishman.

Davros: That's 'cause Englishmen don't disintegrate people's bodies into dust when they lose…or when they meet any other lifeform than their own. Daleks are known to do that…especially the red ones.

Red Dalek:…exterminate?…

Dr Who: I see your point, Red. I suggest a new strategy, John let the Dalek win.

John Treadaway14 Nov 2011 5:03 a.m. PST

I always let the Dalek win – I am simply his Thal… grin

The road game looks like fun…will there be any surprises…not that there needs to be…just asking.

Maybe an eagle landing in the middle of the road?

John Treadaway15 Nov 2011 5:20 a.m. PST

28mmMan: It'll be as 'canonical' as I can make it and – though I'd love to have an Eagle in scale (around 1/50th) I have not yet put a kidney on eBay to get one! (well, I had to put one up for auction to get the Dalek so I'm running short… grin )
