When I order things online, the packages often include a business card from the company. I usually toss the business card, as I have no reason to keep it.

However, today I received a package from a miniatures manufacturer, and they included a free bookmark. Now, that's useful! (Bookmarks are like clothes hangers… they keep disappearing, and I never have enough.)

Would you find it useful if manufacturers provided a free bookmark in your next order?

If I was so bereft of imagination that I couldn't think of a bookmark substitute, then yes.

A quick audit of the books I'm currently reading reveals one has a proper bookmark, another has the sales receipt from the shop where I bought the book, a third has a torn off page from a desk calendar (September 15th) and the last has a post-it.

I suppose you could use a business card too…

You mean there is something other than those annoying postcards that come with magazines that can be used for marking your place in a book? The wonders of the modern age!

Willtij07 Nov 2011 11:43 a.m. PST

I have always just used folded receipts as bookmarks or any scrap of paper nearby.

Yes, I use several now. I also use cards, but they tend to fall out. I appreciate 6 inch long or so colorful bookmarks.

My favorite bookmarks are when I open and old book and find a train or bus ticket stub from way back when I last read the book.

It's free Connard, you don't even have to use your imagination or look around. Just use what they have given you.

OP: Yes, I like a "proper" bookmark.

Would love to find one that fits my Kindle! My version does not even know page numbers only %ages…

For some reason I have four books on the go within the Kindle and one paper book. Currently I rely on the Kindle to remembers its location but last night I read from page 69 to page 80 in the paper book. Before that I was on page 57.

No idea why but I have never needed a bookmark to keep tabs on paper books – just one of those odd things with my mind.

Funny, I like to use business cards as book marks…

Why use bookmarks?
Simpler just to fold down the corner, or better yet, rip off the corner entirely.

Just kidding. I like to use leather souvenir bookmarks I buy at places I visit.

Ribbon saved from Christmas packages, birthday gifts,
etc.

Colorful, handy and FREE…

Bookmarks are why God invented 3x5 cards.

There was a game store that when you bought stuff from them, they would throw in a 6' tape measure (both in standard and metric) that had their logo and phone # on it.

I kept buying from that company for years.

No page numbers on a Kindle?

Another reason not to buy one…..

Business cards can be used as bookmarks.

Connard Sage07 Nov 2011 2:59 p.m. PST

My Sony e-reader bookmarks pages.

Just as well. I can't see how you'd get a business card/ sales receipt/slice of bacon in it.

Garand07 Nov 2011 3:01 p.m. PST

I like proper bookmarks too, but use whatever is at hand most times. The advantage of a proper bookmark is not only it's slim profile, but it is long enough that accidentally losing the page because it falls out is less likely.

Damon.

Yes! I do have a neat Napoleon book mark I've had for 30 years or more, it gets left in a book then months if not years go by and I find it again, till it gets left behind. I NEVER BEND CORNERS!

If a bookmark came with purchases, I would surely use it. And if it had the business card stuff on it, that would help me on my next order. I like paper books best and bookmarks.
I save all the Osprey bookmarks and wear them out as they were intended (bookmarks).

galvinm07 Nov 2011 7:36 p.m. PST

I have a bookmark that clips to the pages, is metal, so weights the pages when the book is laid flat. have had it for years, and transfer it from book to book.

I especially like books that come with a ribbon stitched in as a bookmark.

Roderick Robertson Fezian07 Nov 2011 8:06 p.m. PST

I tend to use old business cards – I have way too many left over from my years at Intel (especially since I had at least 2 misprinted batches, and they have to reprint…).

Ironwolf07 Nov 2011 8:55 p.m. PST

Miniature ad on a bookmark would be a good idea.
