Clearly we need a Star Trek board if there's going to be a Star Wars Board.

But just one ? That would be folly.

I propose a board to cover The awfully travesty that is the reboot movie(s).

What say you ?

No – it was rubbish

There's a Star Wars board?

Plynkes03 Nov 2011 7:11 a.m. PST

It was better than anything the tired, moribund, bumpy-foreheads-and-technobabble franchise has come up with since the 80s.

streetline03 Nov 2011 7:17 a.m. PST

What Plynkes said, if not more so.

alien BLOODY HELL surfer03 Nov 2011 7:21 a.m. PST

yup, the reboot movie is about the only half decent star trek thing I have seen – from TOS through the rest of the manure they churned out.

Patrick Sexton Supporting Member of TMP03 Nov 2011 7:25 a.m. PST

I thought the re-boot was a very good movie and am looking forward to the next one.
Thanks,
Pat

richarDISNEY03 Nov 2011 7:26 a.m. PST

TOS was the really only decent series, and I really don't think there is enough there to keep a board active.

Thomas Whitten03 Nov 2011 7:30 a.m. PST

The Shatner directed failure was better than the "Frat Boys in Space" movie that was the reboot. But I'm clearly in the minority with that view.

The only Star Trek I actually re-watch is TOS, Khan, and Enterprise.

I don't think we need a board, but I'll vote for it none-the-less.

Admiral Yi Sun Sin is my Homie03 Nov 2011 7:34 a.m. PST

Nothing beats Khan

but "Reboot" is the next best movie.

Garand03 Nov 2011 8:23 a.m. PST

Don't worry, I quite agree with you. I'm boycotting the next movie specifically because I don't like the direction they decided to take.

Damon.

richarDISNEY03 Nov 2011 8:32 a.m. PST

I'm with you too Thomas Whitten.
I will even go as far as saying "Nemesis" was better than the re-boot.

Todd Boyce03 Nov 2011 9:17 a.m. PST

The reboot was the worst movie I ever enjoyed watching.

Dynaman878903 Nov 2011 9:27 a.m. PST

RicharDisney, Garand, and Thomas – did I see you on that Onion interview where they had Trekkers complaing that the new movie stunk, the reasons they gave were the movie was Fun, Exciting, and not a single boring political diatribe…

For the poll – was Zardoz a choice? I choose Zardoz.

Garand03 Nov 2011 9:29 a.m. PST

Yes, you saw me there, because obviously one is not allowed to have a differing opinion.

Damon.

Psyckosama03 Nov 2011 9:42 a.m. PST

No.

richarDISNEY03 Nov 2011 9:42 a.m. PST

Now if Zardoz was in the re-boot… Things would be different. huh?

Thomas Whitten03 Nov 2011 9:53 a.m. PST

@Dynaman8789:

The Onion is great, but the reboot did not need to reuse plots from the Police Academy movies.

Dynaman878903 Nov 2011 10:35 a.m. PST

I see I've hit a nerve, and proud of it.

Thomas Whitten03 Nov 2011 10:53 a.m. PST

How so? I'm not offended you seem to like a bad movie. There are bad movies I like as well. Just not this one.

Little Big Wars03 Nov 2011 10:57 a.m. PST

The reboot is definitely the best thing I've seen from the series thus far (though TOS novels were pretty decent). It helps that the new film has an all-star cast and constant excitement.

Nope, sorry, not gonna bite. Nice try though.

The only good ST films are as follows:

The Motion Picture. Yes, the first one. Great effects, costumes and drama. Not as fast paced as the later films but ST TOS was not really a action series. It was Sci-fi.

First Contact. The only decent entry from the Next Gen crew.

The Reboot. Gets points for not using effects shots from previous films. Opening scene is one of the best in any of ST. Not to mention it actually has a sense of adventure. Frat boys in space? That is how the characters of Kirk and Spock are written in TOS.

The rest are campy fun but not exactly up to snuff with Blade Runner, Star Wars, Alien, etc. I have always thought Paramount has treated the franchise as a neglected child. Never really giving it what it needs to be great.

Can't disagree with this (except for the costumes, IMHO terrible, and the "wormhole."). Of all of the movies, it was the most SFinal of the bunch. The Director's cut addresses some of the criticisms. I thought most of the special effects in this were better than in Khan. Maybe not as action laden, but the models were better shot IMHO.

Damon.

HornetsNestMinis03 Nov 2011 12:46 p.m. PST

TMP is the most "Star Trek" of all the films.

Personally, I never liked the more military look of the uniforms brought about by Nicholas Meyers in STII. It did not fit with the uplifting humanity themes established in TOS. The federation was not supposed to be the Navy.

They were however more flattering to middle aged actors with expanding waist lines.

Plynkes03 Nov 2011 2:06 p.m. PST

Star Trek, The Motionless Picture.

Now I like 'cerebral' Sci-Fi as much as the next man (no, several times more than the next man, probably), and I don't believe Science Fiction has to have constant action to be good, but endless boring special effects shots are not what makes a Sci-Fi picture great (but hell, if you've paid that much for it, you have to cram in as much as you can, right?). And simply being slow-paced in and of itself does not make your movie any more clever or worthy.

I don't hate it, it's okay, but it's damn hard to love it. Trying too hard to be 2001, and falling a long way short.

Dynaman878903 Nov 2011 2:19 p.m. PST

ST:TMP – it's great when they took all the shots of the cast staring at the main viewscreen (must have shot 100 hours of that footage, good thing most of it was likely thrown away), anyway – someone took that footage from the movie and ran a blue movie audio over it – strangely enough it fits perfectly.

I happen to like TMP, I would not say it is actually a good film though.

David Manley03 Nov 2011 2:38 p.m. PST

Galaxy Quest was the best ST movie :)

Re-boot. Best thing since Persis Khambatta

What was the one where they were prisoners on the iceplanet with the shape changer… I liked that one, couldn't finish any other the other ones. Loved the reboot, finally something I didn't cringe to watch.

Oddly enough I didn't cringe at animated series I watched on netflix last week.

ST6, Undiscovered Country. Second best trek film ever.

> Persis Khambatta
I guess she looked better with hair.

Dropzonetoe Fezian03 Nov 2011 4:30 p.m. PST

Thanks, I'll have to find it to watch again sometime.

John Treadaway10 Nov 2011 4:25 a.m. PST

ST6, Undiscovered Country. Second best trek film ever.

Not a bad call, with 5 and 1 and the bottom of my list (except for the reboot, obviously…)

Persis Khambatta I guess she looked better with hair.

I can do bald but I'm queezy about 5 o'clock shadow…

Man, must drive you guys crazy that the new Trek movie had the biggest box office of any of the other movies, and is widely acclaimed as a success.

Chris B10 Nov 2011 10:07 a.m. PST

If you can't enjoy the Trek reboot movie, you may be taking Star Trek a bit too seriously. Yes, it was goofy, but that's consistent with the spirit of the original series.
The first Star Trek was an incredible bore, IMHO. I'd rather watch the remake 10 times back-to-back than watch ST-TMP once.

Old Contemptibles10 Dec 2011 8:24 p.m. PST

That last movie was horrible. The story line was all wrong. Wrong, Wrong, Wrong! The only good thing was the guy playing Dr.McCoy. Oh, the mid-year Corvette was pretty good too, just before it went off a cliff. Should have taken the rest of the movie with it.

That movie had some great potiential and it was totally wasted. Made no sense what so ever. One of the worst ever. Almost as bad as ST5.

Grand Duke Natokina11 Dec 2011 9:34 a.m. PST

Board not necessary.

Old Contemptibles13 Dec 2011 7:28 p.m. PST

Agreed, no board.

Poi00014 Dec 2011 7:49 a.m. PST

Not enough Trek gaming, so no need for a board.
