Do you generally make your own terrain boards, or buy ready-made boards? * make my own * buy ready-made terrain boards * I don't use terrain boards |

How about 1 and 2? I have access to and use ready made terrain boards, but I also make my own. So, where does that put me? |

Usually make my own, but have the GW Realm of Battle boards and a few ESLO boards. |

Geohex over my own "base" board |

Make my own from 30cm square pieces of MDF. Heavy but stable and they never go anywhere |

Don't use 'em. Tried them for a while but I like the flexibility of placing the terrain as I like without worrying about a placing a board's river or road in certain ways. |

I do both. After making my own, I gave the Old Glory boards a try. I was told they didn't warp. Well, they do. Still usable though. In the end, I think I like mats the best

I guess I'm 1 and 3. ;) I use mats generally nowadays but I do have boards I've made myself. Admittedly they are look somewhat crummy and tattered nowadays. Whenever I look at a commercial board system (for example GW Realm of Battle), I figure what a table's worth of boards would cost, the effort to paint them, and tell myself I should just make my own. But so far I've neither bought nor made any (more). |

Terrain mats only at this point. Sculpted terrain boards are nice, but they're inflexible and expensive to make, and storage becomes an issue too. |

I make my own mats and hills use branches to make trees and FC and printer to make buildings. |

I make my own terrain boards and hills, but have been going over to using a game cloth, also home made, more and more. |

I use carpet tiles for ground combat and material for my space games. |

bought some ready made tiles and scenery, but am also happy to make my own – especially if I want something a bit different. |

Does making a board full of terrain count? That's where I'm going. Home made ground cloth below, home made terrain above. But sectional terrain boards, if that's what you mean, don't use them. Seen what others have done with them and didn't like all the seam lines that result. To avoid warping on terrain, I'm experimenting with two layers of sheet wood (underlayment) braced with furring ripped down on a table saw, keep it lighter and sturdier and long term durable. |

We set up our boards for each game. So we make our own, I guess. |
