A note in the latest issue of WS&S issue 57 states that the new rules will be released in the near future. it goes on, that there will be no main rule book and that there will be 3 books in total the first being Infantry. it seems logically that the 2nd and 3rd would be Cavalry and Artillery.
They hope to have a interview with the design team in the next issue.
I for one am looking forward to them.

So I have to wait and buy additional books to use a cannon?

That's – odd. I think I'll hold off from that one.

Rudysnelson02 Nov 2011 10:36 a.m. PST

At my store, I have not seen a notice about them being released soon.

Tzen6702 Nov 2011 10:37 a.m. PST

It's been a long time coming and I think they missed the boat a bit with the release of Lasalle and Napoleon at War filling that sort of gaming.

Can you say "dead on arrival?"

WS&S are wrong. First book is the rules, the other two are biiig books of army lists for all the armies of the Napoleonic Wars.

The only place the infantry / cavalry / artillery division is seen is in the cover artwork.

Pretty sure there's an old saying about judging something like that… ;-)

since when has that stopped anyone on this forum!!

Very cool, thanks for the clarification. I'll give it a look!

Due in March 2012 according to one e-tailer here – I've pre-ordered on the basis of a 40% discount on the retail price.

No, no, no. You have to buy the uniform painting books first obviously. But then you won't know how to organize them or how many to paint. What are they trying to pull? I wouldn't take those rules if they gave them away. Actually there are no rules. Clever. They have you make them up as you go along. And make noises like coconut hoof beats and kapow-kapow and the artillery which is in the fifth $50 book you purchanse goes KA-BOOM. You're dead and so is your wallet.

vonLoudon03 Nov 2011 10:04 a.m. PST

Yes I said purchanse as in per chance.

My notice at the store says March 2012 with supplement 1 Triumph of nations listed for June 2012.

trailape07 Nov 2011 9:16 p.m. PST

What e-trader is offering a 40% discount for pre-orders?
I'd jump on that bus,..

I signed up to play test these a few years ago. I couldnt really get into them. First off, they required a few hundred figures to play. Which isnt a problem for some, but for me a the time it was. The other problem was the basic unit was a regiment, which could be a certain number of battalions. This caused all sorts of problems from what I could tell from the forum posts. Im not sure if they decided to go with battalions or brigades in the end. I remember the units were normal or large regiements. I stopped being involved pretty early on, so Im not sure where they endedd up going with it.

I notice from the beta forum, that testing is done and dusted.

Guys, The final proof-read document has gone off to Osprey.
Thankyou all for you testing and feedback. I'm very pleased with the results and I think that you guys should be proud of your input to the finished product.
The Final version has a few changes from the last Beta version, but nothing significant. Some clearer explanations, and a little simplification here and there. It will also contain a 'generic' list for all the 7 larger Nations (with 2 for the French) for the years 1812 to 1813.

Availability should be about March 2012.

I'm now working on getting the 1st draft of the army lists off to Osprey – by the end of this month.
The 1st book covering 1809-1815 (but excluding the Peninsular) is running at 89 lists – so there should be something for everyone. Note that the lists in this book will supercede the lists in the main rules.

The 2nd army list book, covering 1792-1808 (plus the Peninsular) will follow.

Our approach to the rules now will be to continue to listen to feedback – so keep it coming – with the usual FAQs and possibly addendums being posted on the web.

Next competitiion in the UK is likely to be at the BHGS challenge. It's at the end of March, so we should hopefully be using the published rules. See you (UK people) there!

I'm a rules junkie. I will surely buy them.
