The server was upgraded today. Did this solve the "slow" website and time-out errors on the forums?

John the OFM31 Oct 2011 5:47 p.m. PST

It's certainly MUCH faster than this morning!
I timed it his morning with a sun dial.

I experienced three lock-file time-outs trying to post this topic… frown

Initial loading of the homepage seems to be somewhat faster tonight, but overall it remains slow, as it has been since the server migration. I have seen no issues with navigation between pages once I am on the site.

I think our esteemed Editor has answered his own question/poll. I was not able to load TMP Sunday morning, but had no problem in the evening. And I have had no problems this evening.

Dervel Fezian31 Oct 2011 7:52 p.m. PST

hmmm, ok right now… Will see how it goes tomorrow..

Dervel Fezian31 Oct 2011 7:53 p.m. PST

well one lock out while trying to post… the above..

Another while posting this… which seem to be bugs now, not actual delays????

Me thinks there still are some issues?

Mako1131 Oct 2011 10:26 p.m. PST

Yes, and no.

Certainly much faster, but I'm still getting the occasional Lockfile error when posting too. At least not every time though, but did get it the first time trying to post this tonight.

As per the other thread – much faster and serves the whole page rather than stopping part way through.

I have had one lock error just now:

/mivacommon/boards/topics.mv: Line 572: MvLOCKFILE: Runtime Error: Error creating lockfile 'boards/topics.dbf.lck': Timed out waiting for lock

Angel Barracks01 Nov 2011 12:04 a.m. PST

Seems faster but not overall better.
Still get errors when posting.

Martin Rapier01 Nov 2011 2:24 a.m. PST

The load speed seems better today, but like the others, still getting a lot of lockfile errors on posts.

Evil Bobs Miniature Painting01 Nov 2011 3:59 a.m. PST

Seems better so far.

6sided01 Nov 2011 5:39 a.m. PST

Its faster for me.

What I find a little odd is that from the error message above, Bill seems to be using mivamerchant, which I thought was hosted shopping cart software?!

If you are using something from Miva Bill, could it be the timeout is linked to their server responding to requests for permission to serve files or something?

Cheers

Plenty fast now.

You are confusing Miva (a scripting language) with Miva Merchant (an ecommerce product).

If you are using something from Miva Bill, could it be the timeout is linked to their server responding to requests for permission to serve files or something?

The TMP server has no interaction with any "Miva server".

Yup, he was going to get into a proper database software a year ago, but I don't think that went anywhere. Steep learning curve and we are all too needy little crybabies!

I tried shifting to Zend. However, this was terminated when they "upgraded" the language, their development environment stopped working, and I could get no customer support from them.

Still getting lock-file timeouts.

I got timed out yesterday, but today seems fine!

Martin Rapier02 Nov 2011 4:23 a.m. PST

Looking good today, maybe the overnight maintenance cleared a problem.

Turn it off and on again, fixes 90% of all computer problems.
