My main interests are Gempei Wars and ACW. The last time I was at Half Price Books I picked up the Osprey hard back book on Pirates, and another on Gladiators, both $9.98 USD. They both turned out to be very good. So if you see a book historical or otherwise outside your interests will you pick it up to broaden your horizons? TIG |

If the only books one read were constrained by one's gaming interests it would be a dull world. |

I second what Connard said – I read things outside my gaming interests all the time – some of them inspire NEW gaming interests. I probably shouldn't read so much – I have too many interests as it is! |

I read outside my gaming interests, but have from time to time delayed starting a book on the suspicion that it would entice me into a new gaming interest or back to one that has been back burnered. |

I'm with Jovian. It can be a bit of an issue reading outside your gaming period. And has ended up costing me before. |

I am interested in all military history. I will and have bought books that I am not interested in gaming. |

I rarely read IN my gaming interests.

I read lots of economic and social history, the occasional murder mystery, and life science -- none of which has anything to do with my gaming. |

I think of gaming as a way to actively participate in some of my reading interests. |

I'll read almost anything about history. My biggest areas of interest are 17th century political and economic history. I game all sorts of periods and often use the gaming to drive the reading which then drives the gaming. It is sort of incestuous that way. |

I could pick up any book or artical on military history and read it |

I like to change it up – sometimes American Civil War, followed by natural science follwed by WW I (no interest in gaming that) followed by economics. Not too many novels; history is unbelievable enough for me. |

britishlinescarlet2 | 29 Oct 2011 12:51 p.m. PST |
I read anything and everything. I even recently read my wife's Joanna Trollope books(I preferred the original Barchester Chronicles by her ancestor!). History is my consuming passion and I will read anything related to that subject. |

Archaeology and birding are the main things I read outside my gamin interests. |

The problem with reading stuff outside of my gaming interest is that it rapidly becomes of interest if there is anything remotely gameable in it! |
