Hi All – I'm trying to find the best stone bridge models around for 28mm scale European & North American style terrain for the eras from Late Medieval/Renaissance/ECW through all the Horse & Musket periods to the 19th Century (e.g. Malburian/SYW/American Revolution/Napoleonics/ACW/Franco-Prussian/etc).

Currently I have had the excellent Armorcast Bridge ACBR003 for many years (for some reason it's not on the Armorcast site anymore so you can see it at FRP Games) – but it's a bit fantasy-ish (especially if you mount the Gargoyles on it), and a little large (i.e. wide) for some games!

So I was looking to add 1-2 new bridges from other manufacturers and looking for recommendations for best quality/detail/designs? Only criteria/preferences are:
1. It needs to fit a 5cm (2") wide base on the roadway (as my troops are all based on either 1" individual or 2" multiple-fig bases), and
2. If possible has an interior archway of 6" (or 2 x 3"+ or similar) or larger to span my wider rivers…

Appreciate any feedback people can give on one's they have purchased or seen first hand and/or any suggestions…

Many TIA,

The stone bridge in the Hovels range should fit your criteria, among others.

@Gonsalvo – you are referring to the 25mm ACW range bridge (5AC):

I must confess I've never been overly taken by this model although I have not seen it first hand… It's also quite long – basically 12" total length – or were you thinking the other smaller bridge (16AC):

It is a more compact length (i.e. 9" overall) but again I've never been super excited by it – and it looks like the inside of the centre arch may be as little as 2" or so…?

Miniature Building Authority's 28mm bridge is here:

Or scroll almost to the bottom of this page: link
to see 28mm Elite Miniatures French Arty. crossing the same bridge. The bridge comes painted. Note my bridge is painted differently; probably the latest paint scheme by the manufacturer. BIG bridge.

Bon chance,

There's also the Italieri Stone Bridge:

It says its 1/72 but I've used it for 28mm with no problem.

Now that I've seen the thread's contents, I can maybe see why this was put in the Renaissance section, but the title doesn't reference the Renaissance.

I'm a fan of the Hudson & Allen bridge. It's very long but because it's made of high-density foam instead of resin it weighs very little.

Hey Bill – thanks for that – yes I've looked at the MBA's Bridge – I didn't think the pic of it on their site looked that good – but the one on your blog certainly does. I don't suppose you'd mind measuring yours? How wide is the roadway, how long is the entire bridge, and how wide is the river area covered by the two spans? BTW – enjoyed some of your stuff in CWJ – great work!

Thanks @bogdanwaz – that's a point – I hadn't considered that – a mate of mine recently assembled one for 1/72nd WW2 use (see here – lighting in photos is a bit screwy unfortunately) – and it didn't occur to me it might be big enough for 28mm… I'll have to get him to measure it for me as per my request to Bill above…

@firstvarty1979 – you know I had completely forgotten about that one – I actually have some Hudson & Allen stuff (The Desert Fort with extra sections) and had been thinking of getting 3-4 of the Medieval & 18th Century type buildings… However it does look very very long – if it's more than the Hovels 3-arch bridge (which is 12" / 300mm) it must be awfully big? The Vatican website says 3½" wide and 20" long! Looks like the 3-arches must span about 12" which would require a very wide river… I presume the roadway must be close to 3" wide (i.e. about 70mm or so)?

Now that I've seen the thread's contents, I can maybe see why this was put in the Renaissance section, but the title doesn't reference the Renaissance.

My fault @GamesPoet – typo in heading – should have had 17th Century not 18th – unfortunately you can't edit them once posted… Essentially solid stone bridges throughout the period 1500AD to 1900AD were pretty much similar and the majority were built earlier than later – so anything suitable for Renaissance, ECW, WSS, etc, will almost always be suitable for Napoleonics, etc, and if not too exotic ACW too.

FWIW my mate gave me the dimensions of the Italeri plastic bridge – it's much larger than I expected, the roadway being 7.6cm (3") wide and the whole bridge 23cm (9") long. The arch spans about 12-13cm (4"). So it sounds like it'll do the job for me for a simple smaller 1-arch bridge (versus the larger Armorcast Bridge I have at top of thread).

@firstvarty1979 – I've ended up ordering that massively long H&A Bridge – as I was ordering something else from Ben anyway!

Still keen to hear if anyone else know of any other good quality stone or similar bridges suitable for 28mm (or even 20mm)?

Perhaps this (large) 20mm SPC stone bridge is suitable

Or this smaller 28mm stone bridge from Warlord Games

The bridge that Grand Manner has is really nice.

Take a look at the Battlefront Miniatures/Gale Force Nine – Flames of War bridges (originally found in the GF9 "Battlefield In A Box: Rivers (BB105)" set). Perhaps if/when reproduced, they will be suitable for 28mm gaming as well… link

Shame they don't do that flames of war rivers set anymore.

That's just what I'm looking for

Hovels do a couple of nice stone bridges too. The larger one has a toll booth on its too.
