Spent years gaming and am running out of time to paint miniatures and make scenery. I got introduced to CMG through Wings of War and it was a hit as I could play whenever and the small handful of planes I have bought were pre-painted and quite frankly, far cheaper than my other collections. Have since tried Axis & Allies War at Sea and WWII, HeroClix and others. Main benefit for me is I can play a few games in one night with almost zero prep.

There's a pretty small selection of genres it seems (some fantasy, Star Wars, etc.). If a new era were to be introduced, which would you like to see? Made a list.

Modern (Iraq, Russian separatists)
Modern Crime (Russian mob/drug cartels vs. cops/army)
Cold War (IRA vs. Brits, WWIII)
WWII
Pulp (including mafia vs. Elliot Ness)
Great War
Cthulhu (or gothic horror)
Gaslight (including Crimea and colonial)
Steampunk
Fantasy (vikings maybe?)
Sci-fi
None, CMGs are lame!

I think Collectable games work best as a franchise, the only one I ever collected was star wars, and that was for the minatures not the game and rules.

Spartacus, Blood in the Sands. could be interesting.

I'd go with ancients. Lots of different unit types, nationalities, etc. Famous personalities like Alexander and Caesar.

What about a Pantheon vs. Pantheon game, pitting the Greek/roman gods against the Norse gods against the Egyptian gods and so on. I would have been all over that as a 10 year old.

but steampunk seems to be pretty popular these days too.

But aren't the Greek and Roman Gods the same dudes, just with different names?

I would like to see a game based on something like the computer game Civilization Where buildings are just as important as troops and the game is campaign driven.

Yeah, that is why it would be the Greek/Roman gods vs. the other gods. I don't care if they do them as Greek or Roman gods.

If by CMG do you simply mean "pre-painted?" If so, Mongoose did pre-painted Moderns/Jihadist

auction

No longer available directly from them but can be found on ebay.

As for Cthulua Fantasy Flight just recently released pre-painted Cthulu figures:

Also has some uses for Pulp.

As for Fantasy, Rackham's Confrontation line was pre-painted and fantasy:

Then of course there is the whole Heroscape line of pre-painted miniatures that had some WWII, Sci-fi, Men In Black, Knights, Highlanders, Minute Men, Gladiators, Dwarves, Indians, Cowboys, etc.

There are also the EM4 miniatures, Star Wars pre-painted miniatures, D&D pre-painted miniatures and more recently Star Trek pre-painted in Star Trek Expeditions game.

Of course, if you actually mean CMG like clicks then you have stuff like Heroclix, Halo, Gears of War, etc.

Finally, to answer your question I would like to see some nice Pre-Painted WWII. Unfortunately the Heroscape was rather limited and not all that well sculpted.

Dean – check out the Heroclix Sgt. Rock figures (Easy Company soldiers, medic, and Sarge himself, plus their Jerry opponents).

I don't know about the business sense, but prepainted Napoleonics have a certain toy soldier appeal. Might work really well in the old Micro Machine scale (like their old Star Wars playsets, or the Axis and Allies infantry), especially if they can convince a computer to paint them quickly and accurately (as in the paint goes to the right place, not so much on the button counting).

They've already done that one, kind of:

I think something like the 1:1 scale Fairy Meat game would work really well as a pre painted collectible game, something where the battles can be played on any modern day surface because that's just how small the creatures fighting are.

LOL! Orge, I appreciate the post but that is a pretty obscure reference! I had to look it up.

Ralphio, now if someone could actually come up with some decent pre-paints AND some elegant rules? Wouldn't that be a coup?

Only if it wasn't done as random packaging with limited runs of popular / useful stuff. Other than that I don't mind pre-paints – keep trying to buy more star wars stuff as it is :-)

Surfer, isn't that the point of CMGs? A dual edged sword of clever marketing to drive sales and therefore expand the fan base/number of minis while providing an addiction to the players?
