If the USS North Carolina is in Wilmington and the USS Texas is near Houston and the USS New Jersey is in it's home state, maybe a more appropriate location would be Olympia, Washington.
Bwahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha!

You've got to be joking. You really think that the same Olympia, WA that *refused* a namesake visit from the current USS Olympia (a submarine) on the grounds that it was an example of Imperialist Oppression, is going to allow *any* other warship to be docked there as a Museum?

Still a yes.

Actually if the people of Olympia object to imperialism, there are few examples that are so indisputably part of American Empire as the Olympia.

In fact, here's a link if you want to donate directly to save the ship:

The solution is for Newport News Shipbuilding to "do the patriotic," take some of the profit from the aircraft carriers they build, dredge USS Olympia out of the Delaware ($12M I have heard, because of environmental factors -- toxic waste in the mud and such), transport her to their yard on one of the big "ship barges" like they brought the USS Cole back from Yemen on, repair her, and then with help from Gov. McDonnell & VA, and the USS Wisconsin Society, display her in Norfolk, since Philly & PA don't want her either. She and Wisconsin would make perfect "book ends" from the era of the Fighting Steel Navy.

An excellent proposal. It is just frustrating as all Hell that this historic ship has been neglected to such a degree…
