According to the timeline in Tomorrow's War, in 2062 a war breaks out between Argentina and Brazil over access to the River Plate. How likely do you think it is that we'll see a major war in South America between now and 2062? 10%? 50%? |

I don't know how likely it is, but it'd make for some good gaming. I did a lot of research a few years ago on AFVs being used in South America for a project that never got off the ground |

With over 7 billion people draining the earth's resources I doubt it will be limited to just South America. It's no longer 'if', but 'when'. |

I'll be 107 in 2062. I doubt I'll be bothered

Small wars – close to 100% (Columbia vs Venezuela tops my list.) A large war – depends on how agressive Brazil gets and how much that bothers the neighborhood, so about 50%. An Argentina vs Brazil war would be great for gaming, not so good for the actual countries involved. |

Connard, you young pup, I'll be 117. |

As I live there, I would be bothered at 104! Big ones, zero. Small "resolutions of border disputes" possible (but no more probable than Arghentina deciding to submit the Falklands question to trial by combat)Venezuela vs Columbia or Guyana come to mind – a new Gran Chaco show is always possible, but peace pays down here. |

0% Au contraire, each year we compliment our coexistence with new treaties between both countries. Also, the economic dependence between us point to joint diplomatically our destinations in front of the world. They are our brothers. Amicalement Armand |

Tango has the right of it, Brazil has a lot of people to pull out of poverty. One interesting what if is a re run of the War of the Pacific – Peru and Bolivia try to take back their territory in Northern Chile. Revanchism is still strong in Bolivia 130 years later, less so in Peru. Fortunately Bolivia's armed forces would be hard pressed to defend a tennis court on a sunny day. But, get a back to the wall Chavist type government in Peru, they well resort to the last refuge of the scoundrel and make a grab for Arica. |

If we could imagin some future conflict in South America, imsho (super-humble) this could be between Colombia and Venezuela or again Peru vs Ecuador. The rest of us are walking (slowly but firmly) to a Union like the European one. Sooner ( I hope) we can deal with any extra-continental conflict as if it were one country. Amicalement Armand |

About the only plausible war involving Brazil in the next fifty years would be some sort of border incident in the Amazon. Joing part of a multi-national slapdown of Hugo's Venezuela would be a possibility, too, presuming Hugo got more toys to play with and started seriously rattling the sabre at Colombia. |
