That is a sweet design and I would pick up a platoons worth. |

Isn't this just an AIFV? link If so then you're in luck. Geoff at QRF has them: link |
GeoffQRF | 08 Oct 2011 4:56 p.m. PST |
It's not the AIFV – the markings are Chinese, it looks a bit like the ZLC2000, but the turret is much farther forward.
QRF has them

Hey, back off from that Irishserb guy
I want him to make toys that actually exist first! He's got some gems forthcoming (M-113 and AAV7) and he had made mention to me that he might make earlier Iraq War versions of Marine HUMVEEs, which I would love to have for my Generation Kill (Ambush Alley) project! So no sci-fi for that Irishserb guy! |

Nah, talk to Rebel Minis. Aren't they doing ultra-modern PLA? Although with that big 'surfboard' on the front, that must be an amphibious vehicle
maybe comparable to the US EFV? |

Note these are all CG images, and seem to be dated 2006, so it's likely they were 3D creations by a graphic artist called Pandaee of what eventually turned out to be one of the current Chinese amphibs. Interesting use of the side guards when in amphibious mode though. :-) |

Looks like they stole the US plans for the USMC Expeditionary Fighting Vehicle. |

Hey, Geoff, where did you find the additional pics? Are there any of the rear, showing the ramp, door, etc.? |

Looks like they stole the US plans for the USMC Expeditionary Fighting Vehicle. The Chinese? Copy a Western design, Matthew? NEVER! |
javelin98 | 11 Oct 2011 2:29 p.m. PST |
What is it with all these new designs -- the Chinese IFV above, the Marine EFV, the Army's defunct AGS -- that they like to put flat slab sides on the things? An angled side creates at least some chance of deflecting incoming rounds, versus the hard impact of a straight-on hit. I've always wondered about that. I remember when we shot up some old M114's and 60-class tanks down in the desert at Fort Irwin. Whenever you hit one on the sloped glacis, you would see the round winging off into the sky, but when you the sides, that sucker when right in (and probably through, given that we were using the Ma Deuce). |

Hey, Geoff, where did you find the additional pics? Are there any of the rear, showing the ramp, door, etc.? I'm a crafty who can trace back the origin of things ;-) That was published on this (Chinese) site: fyjs.cn It appears to be some sort of military news site. The story was on the front page (despite the images being dated as 2006) but has gone now. However they were created by this chap: link I can't see it on there now either, but the images above are all photo renders, not actual models. His website seems to be a combination of model making and creative design/photography. My suspicion is still that this an artist's drawing/3D model of the early prototype releases, or his own Chinese'd' image of what a Chinese variant of the EFV might look like. I don't think there were any other pictures. they like to put flat slab sides on the things The new ceramic-type armours are much more effective than RHA but can only really be made in flat surfaces, but to the way the laminations work. |

I second/third the QRF miniature as it looks like a perfect match to me
really nice. Also the amphib version with the dolphins (water stabilizers) is really fun
those help a box from rolling with the wave action as it cuts the water and the extended front does the same for pitch
interesting to be sure. |

So I played around with this concept in Sketchup; see what you think. If it looks like something anyone wants to order from Shapeways, let me know and I'll upload it to my storefront. I'm calling it the Type 108, since this thread started on 10/8. Clever, huh? Sometimes I amuse even myself.

Man! It's really good-looking tank, can I get it somewhere?? |
Maxshadow | 23 Dec 2012 4:37 a.m. PST |
Is it just me or does it look like an amphipious Japanese tank from WWII |
Lion in the Stars | 23 Dec 2012 9:58 p.m. PST |
@Maxshadow: Well, pretty much all the amphibious tank/IFVs look pretty similar. I mean, LVT(A)s look like PT76s, etc. Congress hasn't figured out that you pretty much can't make an Abrams float, though, which is why the Advanced AAV/EFV got axed. |
