I've managed to squeeze in some hobby time and these are the results. Check out my 20mm HotT Centaurs and Undead as well as 54mm fantasy skirmish monsters.

I hope to mount the 54mm game soon.

Dig the centaur conversion.

Neat figures. Where did you find them?

I use 54mm-60mm figures for giants, in my BattleSystem (AD&D) miniatures games. I use 60mm Vikings for Frost Giants, and 54mm Cave Men for Hill Giants. The Cave Men are the same size as the 1982-vintage Grenadier Hill Giant figures I have, so they work perfectly. I have repurposed Mage Knight figures for various monster/character types for BS, as well as the newer D&D figures. I don't care for the D&D Miniatures Game, but I do like the figures -- if I can get them for a decent price (same with MK figures). Cheers!

The centaur conversions are great!! The arcane legion figs..I´ve looked at them but they do seem a bit too big to fit along side the usual range of 1/72nd plastics..and i agree with you about the plastic they have used..very odd stuff.

Thanks! I'm buying a few more boxes of Arcane Legion to check out the figures since the monsters seem to be ok alongside 20mm plastig figs.

@Sgt. Slag: I got the critters in my local deptartment store toy shop. The aisles are filled with insect nasties in time for halloween. Are the 60mm Viking you're refering to the same ones here?

I also got these at the department store for around US $1 a pack.

No, the brand I bought, off of e-Bay, is Jecsan. Try doing a search, on e-Bay, for "60mm Vikings", and you should get at least two main sets, different manufacturers. The Jecsan are more detailed, than the Cherilea, but by using both, I gained variety of poses.

They paint up very easily, and I use a dark blue Magic Wash to give them some blue shadowing. I also picked up a set of 60mm Wolves, and Bears (not canon in AD&D, but they'll fit into my game world as auxiliary troops for a Frost Giant army…), made originally by Marx. The figures are all white plastic, so a little paint on the eyes, ears, and mouths, followed by a blue Magic Wash, with a final matte coat, and they're game ready. I have only found one auction, thus far, for the Marx Bears and Wolves, but you never know. Cheers!

They are not super detailed, but they paint up easily: I just painted the non-bone parts, then brushed on The Dip (Minwax's Royal Walnut shade of polyurethane-stain), let dry, then matte coat. I did mine with red bits of clothing, but nearly any colors will work. Again, it gives options, as I also recruited giant skeleton figures from Mage Knight ("Bone Golems," I think they were called) into my undead army of Giant Skeletons. I use them for a Lich's army. Great fun for BattleSystem, or BattleSystem Skirmish games. Cheers!

@Sgt Slag

Those Jecsan and Cherilea look great!

cooey2ph14 Oct 2011 7:39 a.m. PST

I also got those skellies. the bag i got though had more archers rather than the ones carrying melee weapons. might have to look out for more.

Sgt Slag14 Oct 2011 9:41 a.m. PST

That's the problem with mail ordering these bags of stuff: you can't preview how many of each figure, is in there, until you open it up. I would have preferred more archers, but that is just me. Archers are killers in BattleSystem games (Long Bowmen are the most powerful due to their reach-out-and-kill-things range), especially Giant Archers… The greater the carnage, the more fun I have in the game -- and it doesn't matter to me which side is turning into ground beef. >;-) Cheers!
