Live and Let Die.

But only because Sean Connery singing "Underneath the Mango Tree" wasn't an option (not a theme song, and he only sang one line)

1. Goldfinger – Shirley Bassey (1964)

2. Nobody Does It Better – Carly Simon (from 'The Spy Who Loved Me', 1977)
3. All Time High – Rita Coolidge (from 'Octopussy', 1983)

Interesting how I can almost guess our ages based on which Bond or Bond theme we liked:

Goldfinger
Thunderball
You Only Live Twice

I wore out a cassette tape of all the bond film themes back in the 80's

Nobody Does It Better – Carly Simon (from 'The Spy Who Loved Me', 1977)

second Choice

Diamonds are forever by Shirley Bassey who would do three bond songs.

gounour04 Oct 2011 9:29 p.m. PST

Live and let die
You only live twice
Underneath the mango tree (not a theme, but we all can hum it)

(can't cope with "Goldfinger" because of "Goldfinder", a "hot" conversion we made during my time as an Army musician in the early 90's. We were playing a whole of james bond themes, and had a pair of very good song writers in the band. No, you definetly can't have it ;))

what is interesting is that all the themes given here are from real old James Bond…

Bond 77. Not the main theme, but it is a theme.

Ski chase, cliff fall, Union Jack parachute, audience cheers in cinema. Film hasn't even started yet.

1 – The New Casino Royale. Sorry old people, I like my music to be musical, rather than howling women with a big-band accompaniment. I bet you all like Lawrence Whelk.

2 -The Life of Brian. Not a Bond Tune, but should be

How about none of them, but if you held a gun to my head it would be Matt Monro's From Russia With Love, as the least disliked

I have a soft spot for From Russia with Love as sung by Matt Munroe.

View to a Kill – the movie itself was terrible though.
GoldFinger is second – and it was a GREAT movie too.

But that is precisely one of those 'howling women with a big-band accompaniment' songs that in the previous sentence you claimed not to like.

Live and Let Die

Before my time, but terrific.

"Nobody Does It Better" still sounds like the lyrics to a commercial.

Agent 1305 Oct 2011 3:01 p.m. PST

I like the theme from the recent Pierce Brosnon Bond game, "Everything or Nothing". It really hearkens back to the classic Bonds with a modern sound. The game's opening is very cool as well, like a classic Bond movie. It is the best damn Bond game ever! Give the video a quick look. BTW I have the entire soundtrack. The theme is really over 3 minutes long.

Sounds like some people are just listing their favorite movie. There is only one theme music to all the James Bond movies. There were some featured songs like "Live and Let die" or "Gold Finger". Here is the theme music:

YouTube link

"The "James Bond Theme" is the main signature theme of the James Bond films and is featured in every "official" (Eon Productions) 007 film since Dr. No in different versions. The piece has been used as an accompanying fanfare to the gun barrel sequence in almost every James Bond film.

The "James Bond Theme" has accompanied the opening titles twice, as part of the medley that opens Dr. No and then again in the opening credits of From Russia with Love. It has been used as music over the end credits for Dr. No, Thunderball, On Her Majesty's Secret Service, The World Is Not Enough, Casino Royale, and Quantum of Solace."

Of the more modern Bonds, the song Goldeneye sticks in the memory..

Of course Shirley Bassey and the songs Goldfinger and Diamonds are Forever are the best Bond songs… just a shame that Moonraker was not as good!

The You Only Live Twice soundtrack has some really impressive instrumental bits, but the original theme is bang and you know exactly what is going to happen next.

Old Contemptibles05 Oct 2011 11:03 p.m. PST

Wrong! There is only one Bond theme. You can have a soundtrack of the movie with all the songs but there is only one Bond theme.

Plynkes06 Oct 2011 2:45 a.m. PST

Rallynow, in your headlong rush to be awarded the coveted TMP's Most Pedantic Poster award, you have unfortunately started talking out of your hat.

The question asks for favourite 007 theme song. Monty Norman's 'James Bond Theme' is not a song.

I admit, I picked a theme that isn't a song. Silly me.

Norman D Landings06 Oct 2011 3:14 a.m. PST

Yeah, I picked OHMSS, which isn't a song either. And yet, somehow, I'm living with the guilt! ;)

pphalen06 Oct 2011 5:24 a.m. PST

For your eyes only, two reasons:
Sheena Easton:

YouTube link

And I like the plain vanilla James Bond theme (probably the rhird or fourth thing someone figures out how to play when they pick up a guitar)

pphalen06 Oct 2011 5:27 a.m. PST

Live and Let Die is my second favorite.

Personal logo 20thmaine Supporting Member of TMP06 Oct 2011 6:10 a.m. PST

I'll go for the Bond Theme from Dr NO – a song without words (like a tree without leaves)
