While I have some of the old RAFM Space: 1889 minis, I don't have enough troops for a VSF game. To bulk up quickly, I was considering Wargames Factory's Zulu War British Infantry. While I found a good number of hard plastic minis manufacturers, only Wargames Factory appears to make British colonials. Are there any other manufacturers of hard plastic multi-pose 19thC British Colonials other than Wargames Factory?

Warlord Games will be coming out with some in the near future.

Also, the Perry have a nice range with variety and it's economical enough.
But Warlord has a chance to be both a fine filler and a great miniature source for these projects.

The Warlord articles are from late spring; knowing their nice output capability they won't be very far from now…

I was told they would be out in November. If you can wait a month for them.

Thank you all for the answers.

Yes, I can. This is the sort of project I've been working off and on for a while, so no hurry. However, I see Foundry Miniatures has a 20% off sale right now, so I will probably pick up some metal command packs and maybe a character pack or two.

Incidentally, when I have enough figures to run games, I'll be using either Soldier's Companion or GASLIGHT. (I have both rule sets.) It will be on Mars and I want to get the Martian Amazons from Bronze Age Miniatures as adversaries.

Don't forget the excellent Empress Miniatures line for characters.

Dogged03 Oct 2011 10:24 p.m. PST

Also, Warlord's range is produced in close collaboration with Empress Miniatures so it makes New Sock Puppet for Tony's comment the more valuous.

I'd stay clear of Foundry because of scale issues as their miniatures are usually shorter (and more expensive). Maybe as some kind of foreigners or native tribal types (in wherever you may place them, in whatever colour you paint them)…

EDIT: Wargames Factory also makes Amazons. They're too pulp as to be of other use then (wild) fantasy but they are plastic so easy conversion chances here. With guns from Perry Ansar, for example, or from the future Zulus or British colonials by Warlord, or even futuristic weapons (from WF, GW…)

How pleasant of Tony to mention a rival company's products, maybe one or two other posters to TMP could use a little of his good will..CH.

@New Sock Puppet for Tony: Thanks for the tip about Empress Miniatures. Since I saw they had a Roarke's Drift "Hollywood" Character pack, and cheaper command sets than Foundry, I've cut my Foundry order back. Will wait for the Warlords Game plastics release and compare them to the WF plastics, then make my purchases both of ranker and command.

@Dogged: Thanks. Yes, I saw the WF Amazons. They aren't exactly what I want, but considering how pricey an army of Bronze Age "Dead Earth" Warrior Women would be, the plastic Amazons are the more practical option.

I believe Wargames Factory do a British firing line and Zulus, in plastic.

Or you can try Rapier for white metals at a fair price

Here in any case are the WF ones, which are not bad at all actually

I changed their pith helmets to Home Service dress, but otherwise they are as built from the box.

Hi cat herder – I appreciate the sentiment (and echo it!) but Warlord is not actually a competitor to Defiance Games at this point since we're making all 28mm SF plastics and not historical ones.

Thanks again!
Tony

Hi, I don't know if this is the sort of thing you are looking for but I have added some VSF conversion bits to my range.

Might need to wait a bit more, since November is almost over and there is no sign of the plastic Brits yet. However, Warlord has released their first plastic Zulu kit, with another coming next week or so.

I am begging for the Victoria Lamb cavalry for Christmas.

Ancestral Hamster07 Dec 2011 10:11 a.m. PST

@victoria: Not right now, but I might need such conversion parts in the future, so I will bookmark your site. Thank you.

The Warlord Rourke's Drift set was tempting, but I couldn't justify the expense, not after a large Malifaux purchase. Am looking forward to Warlord's Zulu War British regulars.
