On a scale of 1 (poor) to 10 (excellent), how would you rate the Arachnarok Spider kit for Warhammer? |

A picture or link would help. Or is this for WHFB insiders only? ;o) |

Here you go Pijlie link lots of nice addons, great detail, scary as all hell. expensive |

Around a -8. This did not needed to be added to Warhammer Fantasy. It is only meant to take money from you and put it into the hands of the evil empire. It is far to expensive to buy $60.00 USD plus at 295 points I can field nearly 100 Goblins which will help me win more than this model ever will. GW is going for the big huge models for each army, which in later editions might not even by useable. |

This is from the same company that won't even tell its store managers what is coming out in enough time to get release events set up and advertised in-store anymore
Having said that, I may pick one up if I can get a good trade on an unbuilt one, I have a monster/Tyranid conversion idea
9.5 for looks, 3.75 for practicality. |

I think it looks great. A giant spider model is something that has tons of uses within Warhammer FB besides in a goblin army and in pulp gaming, sci-fi gaming and other types of fantasy gaming. That and the fact that it is plastic and so inexpensive make it a great model. I'd give it a 8-9. |

You can build it up three different ways, too. |

I think this says it all: From GW Website: Da Black Gobbo says: When I goes to war, I always 'av a chat to da Forest Gobbos to see if I can get me hands on an Arachnarok Spider. Not only is it ded 'urty in combat, where it munches all da scrawny humies an' pointy-ears, but it can even have a flinger on top to lob 'eavy stuff at dem and squash 'em from long range. So yeah, itz super-killy and really big. In fact, dis Spider is so massive, it actually needs a bigga base than all uvver monsters. |

"so inexpensive make it a great model" When is a nearly $60+ dollar model inexpensive? Plus next year this will more than likely go up to nearly $70. USD For that kind of money I could almost two boxes of Victrix models for Napoleonics that have 52-60 figures in each box. Also against any good WFB player this is just 295 victory points waiting to happen. The only good thing that it has going is that it is not made out of Finecast Resin. I have over 500 Ork and Goblin models right now and I do not need this model at all. This model is easy to kill the 300+ Goblins and 150+ Orks aren't. Okay the Goblins are easy to kill but can you kill all of them that is the question? |

A 4-5 inch tall, 8 inch long model of anything is pretty cheap at $60. USD I'd say it would be worth it at $80-90. I doubt any other company could produce such a thing for that price. "Also against any good WFB player this is just 295 victory points waiting to happen." What does that have to do with the model? It is a fantastic model, the fact that you don't need any more models in your orc and goblin army doesn't have any relevance to the discussion. I don't need one and don't have any plans to buy one any time soon but it is still a great model and a fantastic value for the price. |

I agree with Pictors. If you think this is expensive you should check out current prices on military kits like Tamiya. Cheaper plastic kits typically lack good fit, or have poor instructions, or both. Newer GW kits that I have assembled are of superior design and assemble very well. |

I'm a pretty big fan of the model. Maybe an 8? |

Used mine in a battle last week – scared the bajeebers out of the Empire player. GW engineered this one pretty nicely as far as construction goes. That said, I would give it a "9". Love the paint Greenfield! |

There seem to be 3 camps here: 1. The "GW Haters" This camp is likely to rate any model from Games Workshop poorly, regardless of quality or usefulness. 2. The "Efficiency Experts" In this group, every model is weighed and measured based upon its likelihood of destroying a possible opponent. In this camp, the model itself is of little matter – the usefulness is what counts. 3. The "Modelers" As a member of this camp, I tend to rate models based on how cool they look, how well they assemble and the overall building/painting experience. I also tend to add things to an army based purely on how cool I think it will look on the battlefield. I often (mostly) lose those battles
but my models look good – even in defeat. |

I love the look of it, especially the yellow paint job pictured above. I admit, it's a cool model to have even if it's no longer usable in the next version of the rules. And I find it expensive, as I find most GW stuff to be. I read a review of it somewhere (probably here) where the reviewer said it was a bit fiddly to put together. But the amount of options you have is pretty impressive. I think I'd put this in with the "great looking models I don't want to spend the money on" pile. I think it's a great sculpt for sure. |

I have absolutely no use for this model, I don't play WHFB. It is also horrifying and disgusting. I hate spiders. This is precisely why I love this model (which I only came across due to this poll). Its looks like an amazing kit, too rich for my blood but then I'm a student, so what isn't? 8 |

It's a lovely kit
I'd probably give it an 8 or a 9 myself. Really I like that GW is adding more monsters into the game; what are epic fantasy battles without big monsters included amongst the hordes? |

In Australia it is $96. USD As the Australian and US dollars correspond in value, that is basically $100! |

""Also against any good WFB player this is just 295 victory points waiting to happen." What does that have to do with the model?" Well as someone pointed up above it is not very efficient for it point cost. Yes it is a very large model and with the current warmachine & magic rules of WFB it just not likely to last long. Thus the likely hood that it would ever make up it point cost is very unlikely. Also since it is a rare choice I would much prefer to use my very point cost Snotling Pump Wagons on the table. The real strength of an Ork & Goblin army is not this model but the Orks & Goblins and the more of those that you put on the table the better off you will be. If I was using my Empire army and my Ork & Goblin put this on the table I would not be afraid of it. Because by doing this I know his army is going to be way smaller than it could be. Plus I am a old school Empire player and have plenty of cannons. True I just might not be using them on this Orks & Goblins but I would have my troops for that. Also this model will never have steadfast and smart opponent will just put a steadfast unit up against it and work at killing off the rest of the Ork & Goblin army. Also remember that many WFB matches are still at 2000 point and this model would be 14.75% of the total points. Even at 2500 points this would be 11.80% of the total points. That is a lot of points to have in one model. I am still waiting to see just what GW plans on giving the Empire as their big nasty model. Though they do have the Steam Tank & Walter (War Alter) right now. But I do not use them in my Empire army. I much prefer to see if I can win games by skill instead of having a hard to kill model. I rated the model on use not just looks. At least we were not talking about the Surfing Tomb Kings. link |
Fisherking | 04 Oct 2011 9:05 a.m. PST |
It makes sense that the Tomb Kings are surfers. They basically live (unlive?) on a giant beach. |
