Hi,
What would be the best Abrams (all versions considered) in 15m? I heard of the Johnny Lightning diecast but where can we get it in Europe?
Thanks,
Wargamer57

There are the different abrams offered by QRF in the UK:

Doesn't look very appetizing. :-(

The QRF one is not too bad, and I am pretty sure Geoff has an updated one on the way too.

Here are some pictures of mine so you can see it painted:

Well, I can tell you which one is the worst. Quality Castings. I was told QC product was good by several people, so two years ago I bought up two platoons worth while they were on a new years sale from some site and half the bloody things arrived miscast, the other half were warped. I think between the parts for eight tanks, I was able to make 1 good tank. I use the term "Good" very loosely because the track parts are terrible. The turret still came out unacceptable.

I hope someone like Irishserb makes one eventually. He takes a lot of care in his vehicles to get them right and make them perfect. Hoping to see an updated one from QRF too as the pics online make it look only slightly better than the QC models. :/ I don't get how we can be lacking any decent Abrams in 15mm scale given the metric tonnage worth of good modern U.S. infantry.

Corgi made one that pretty darn close for 1/100

@Wolfprophet: agree on the lack of Abrams. Unbelievable.

If you can find them on ebay Johnny Lighting Diecast made a 1/100 M1A1. I have four of them much better than QRF.

Lack of a good M1 keeps me from 15mm. Instead I'm leaning to 1/72. Good armor models are so important because they get all the attention on a table.

That M1 looks out of scale with that infantryman. He looks as tall as the tank.

"That M1 looks out of scale with that infantryman. He looks as tall as the tank."

To my knowledge, all current M1 tank models we have available to us are True 15mm scale. This means that our infantry, affected by Scale creep, are too big for them. Or rather, our M1 choices are now too small and outdated compared to the infantry.

15mm infantry are often nearly to 16.5mm, plus they come on bases, plus you mount them on other bases…

"15mm infantry are often nearly to 16.5mm, plus they come on bases, plus you mount them on other bases…"

Quite true! but, even without bases, the infantry are too big for the tanks now.

Notice in one of the photos, the one from the front angle. There is no way that man could fit through that hatch. The tank came first, so I'd say the man is too big. But at this point, getting someone to make a tank that's big enough to account for the scale creep factor really shouldn't be much of an issue and will likely result is a great number of sales of the model as that person will have the market monopolized for a while on the 'properly re-proportioned M1 tank." 15mm kits. Provided it's as detailed as QRF's and not as flashy or painful to deal with as the QC one. :)

Well, the tank is 1/100, so in reality a little bigger than 15mm…

Not a problem, here you go: link

Matchbox came out with one last year. With a good repaint it looks nice…

Any new models out there for the 15mm M1A1 or A2 Abrams? Im thinking about the Johnny Lightning Abrams, but they are $15 USD and up on Ebay. Are they worth the money?

Heinz Good Aryan04 Sep 2013 12:57 p.m. PST

Kurasan makes one and I have it and i think it's the best in 15mm scale…..

MaahisKuningas9006 Sep 2013 1:50 a.m. PST

Yes, khurasan minis M1A2 is extremeley good – and definetly easier available to europe than johnny lightining :P though its going to fall in pretty much same price-category – curse the USP.
