Just found this:

If you were going to do the terrain for gaming in15mm, what would you do differently? For example, how big would be your playing area?

Thanks for sharing.

Was wondering if anyone made a Reaver ship, like that which chased them on the planet?

I'd play on a minimum of 4' x 8', and 5' x 9', or 6' x 10' – 12' would be even better. I like large playing areas, when the tables are available. Folding tables are very useful, and easy to store.

Now, we just need someone to produce their ship in 15mm, for a reasonable price. I'll bet there's a wooden one on eBay available for a few hundred dollars, from the Spaceship company that does those.

Yep, I was right – $175, with free international shipping, and it's 10" long. A tad small, but still should be impressive on the tabletop:

I haven't purchased from the company, so can't vouch for their work, or honesty, so contact them at your own risk.

I'm sure they could scale it up to, and produce a larger one for a bit more money, should you require that.

Yep, was right on that too, e.g. $219 USD for a 16" long model. I'd go with the larger one, if I had the cash:

There are a couple more that are 9" and 14", but appear to be less detailed, and a simpler design overall:

While appearing to be initially cheaper, once you add the shipping costs on, they are about as much as the more detailed models.

4x4 minimal, but then again I've been known to clear out the garage to play.

Wasn't sure how big the Serenity was, so looked it up.

269 feet long, which equates to just shy of 32", or 800mm's, in 1/100th scale.

Still, the 16" long model, at 1/200th scale should be adequate for most gamers' needs.

The Serenity is either 63 meters long (40 meters wide, 18 meters tall), according to every source I've seen… Thats only about 205 feet…. or 269 feet (83 meters) based on one of the more recently released official blue prints…. so if you just use the smaller scale, things will work out (the blue print seemed to make it a bit larger than it actually looks, IMO, especially when it shows you to scale people that look a little small for the rooms).

Personally I measure things in meters, though. So if you play 15mm 1"=3m (seems to fit figure scale perfectly), you get 21", pretty close to the 16" model. If you play 15mm 1"=4m (what most people use, even though its a little farther off figure scale, making people something like 7 1/2 feet tall) you get 15.75"… perfect for the 16", and the fact is that little difference in ground scale isn't noticeable at this size (and the models aren't the detailed, anyway…).

Of course with the larger scale you get more in the 20"s….

Personally I'd just use a paper model scaled properly or make my own.

You can buy the shuttles as an ornament, prepainted, by Dark Horse. I did, and they're roughly 15mm (they look great with my GZG independent starship crew and Rebel troopers). On eBay, look up "Inara Shuttle" to find them. Even if you don't play in the Serenity universe, they look great for 15mm gaming.

As for the setup for the reaver assault. On the terrain front, I feel like a painted construction paper floor looks ok, but could have been improved by some hills, etc. The layout of the town was great for a combat game, but IRL people lay out towns with commerce and daily life in mind. That is, usually with a single road or crossroads that all the buildings are built around. A massive village square doesn't serve a purpose that I can see (a spacecraft landing area would be a little off from the town)

I'd recommend a desert-colored sheet for the terrain base, since they're relatively cheap, and can be used for other gaming too. Heck, you can even put it on the bed, if in a pinch.

Paint the terrain to match using craft paints, or cheap housepaint.

Please note:

The Reaver attack on the Lilac settlement resulted in a chase of the Serenity crew while they were riding a gravity "mule". They were not on Serenity.

Ok here I go, just look at this picture

MORE junk piles! Looks like the maid just left, and more un even terrain small knolls or hills and vegetation, buildings though not bad could use some more work like stuff around them to look more lived in or worked in, and vehicles
Don't get me wrong all in all not a bad set up

Mako1105 Sep 2011 9:51 p.m. PST

Yes, I know, but it does swoop in to save them just in the nick of time.

There's always this…

The guys says its 3ft (give or take) so just print it at 90% and it will be just about perfectly 1/100 scale.
