Given that TMP (and miniature wargaming in general) is a family-oriented experience, I get the occasional message from a concerned reader that the website is straying into
well, off topic. Do you find TMP to be too sex-oriented? |

It's another UK/USA disconnect thing innit? I reckon this place is like a vicarage tea party to most Brits. Try 'How many puritans are there on TMP?' as your next poll suggestion. Then divide it by country. |

Sexy? Yes. Too sexual? No. |

Next poll up is TMP to violent, with it being related to war and battles. Honestly, this place is as tame as a preschool room compared to the rest of the internet. If 3% of the people complain that it's too sexy, then they should just move on instead of ruining it for the rest that have no issues with human sexuality. just my .02 |

I do not find TMP sexy. That would be quite strange. There is some banter that contains the odd bit of innuendo. Occassionally I would have to think twice about letting a child use the site. I think it is perfectly safe for teenagers. I think they probably know smuttier sites to visit. You can't make the conent of the whole world suitable for 4 year olds. Otherwise my local pub will have to go over to Ribena and Ovaltine. If TMP were a wargaming magazine I'd expect the banter to go, but it isn't. It's an online forum for predominantly adult gamers. |

TMP too sexy? Surely you jest?!!! This place is THE most milquetoast site I visit on the web. How young are these 'kids' people are worried over? (I suspect they're hypothetical at best). Most kids I know would have to tone it down for TMP. |
doc mcb | 02 Sep 2011 11:25 a.m. PST |
I share the editor's concern, but by and large -- say 99% of the time -- I agree that TMP is fine for kids if the filter option is on. IN GENERAL -- and I say this as parent, now grandparent, and also as 30+ years teacher of kids from older elementary (4th grade, say 10 years old)on up -- one need not be too concerned because children who are genuinely innocent will not understand/"get" what they read (especially) or see (maybe a bit more so). That said, if I were doing a Viking raid and younger gamers are playing, I'd have them after pigs not girls, as it is easier to explain to a child what they are going to do with the pig. However, there is a stage -- roughly 10 to 12, perhaps -- when kids are pre-adolescent and somewhat vulnerable to being disturbed by (particularly) images that they would have ignored when younger, and will be able to handle when older. Protecting them at this point is a legitimate concern for parents. But I think the filter is about as much as Bill can or needs to do. |

Are we allowed to say "Lick my lovecumber" on TMP? If so then TMP is too sexy. If not then TMP isn't sexy enough. |

Umm
wait a second. You mean there are kids in this hobby? And they look at TMP? Prove it! I have a feeling that the only reason a kid would have for looking at TMP would be to show his friends how embarrassing his dad is

JRacel | 02 Sep 2011 12:12 p.m. PST |
No. A simple Google image search is likely to cause far more harm than the worst thing one could see or read on TMP. Just looking for something normal and innocent on Google could lead to some VERY interesting items you never would have expected. Jeff |

If you want to help the sensitive tone it down for their own comfort, consider another tier to the bleepomatic. If the Adult Filter is ON, either an additional list of words gets bleeped, or whole posts get situationally stifled. You could even build in a button that would allow the poster to flag the post as "behind the Filter". |

I do believe Mr Curtis has discovered the cure for priapism. I am rather surprised that the question of TMP being family friendly didn't occur during the long running sex with minors fiasco, some while ago. Perhaps it is a cultural difference thing after all. |

Howsabout starting up 'TMP For Softies'
an alternate version of the site where discussions are restricted to only the pleasant aspects of history and warfare
games are only played with plush toys and gum drops (no sharp bits to poke iddle widdle fingers on)
and no nasty references to mommy's milk bottles. |
