They are indeed quite awesome; as for the objections to the faces, well, they're not actually military hardware as such. It's quite clear from the description that the Garn are just making use of a system already in place, one which requires "iron horses" or "iron cats" as steeds. Also, the Garn have already built military equipment shaped like them (the battlemech), so it's hardly surprising that they'd put a face on Felid equipment. |

Could you not also argue that the slightly unstable young barons want a scary face on the bike? Anyone whose ride has to be fitted with blades instead of missiles is not exactly the most rational, and being a baron in waiting means they probably have some say in the bike design. |

These two pretty much nailed it. That was going to be my argument after reading the 1st page. So yeah, Faces=not silly. If you do want silly looking hover bikes, check out the Aphids from Zombiesmith. The bikes for them are so bad that someone I saw took the riders and mounted them on Tyranid Rippers as cavalry. Not Zombiesmith's fault though considering the aphids figure designs are older than the company is. |

While I don't mind the face or the blades, when they end up on my table, the "face-fairing" will get a re-work and the blades go away. Though my main problem is that I have to fit jet bike into my background for the Felids, whom I had planned to use a primarily wheeled vehicle inventory. I suppose these could be purchased from off-planet to augment their forces. I'd use them as scouts/skirmishers/raiders rather than berserkers. |

The blades are an excellent example of what makes a vehicle alien: they're totally ridiculous on a human vehicle but make perfect sense as Jon explained them, and in the context of Felid culture. Their expectations of how to fight and why to fight are totally different, so the system requirements change, so the vehicle design changes. High status warriors don't skirmish, and do get the heavier equipment. So the heavier equipment has to be designed around the social expectations and psychology of the leadership caste's kids. I think it makes perfect sense. Bravo. (Nicely explanations from people on the face front, so good point that they make total sense for the Felids. I still don't like them as an aesthetic thing, but that's very easily fixed. Those jetbikes have a major cool factor, and I don't normally like jetbikes.) |

Very cool and I love whole story behind it. Very feudal, very historical, very logical. Fantastic design. |

. I think with a little modding, you could probably make them into ATVs or normal bi-wheeled motorbikes. I'm sure it'd be easy enough to make a couple wheels and shafts to connect them to the bike's frame. |

Glad to see that most folks like them, I think Ben, John and Chris all did a great job. On the faces, yes the Garn designed the vehicle for the Felids, and they did arrange the front of the craft to resemble a felid face, to terrify the enemy, knowing that the Hostage Barons' Sons would be using these light vehicles at close range. The pieces all have a function though, the nose houses the sensor array, the eyes are searchlights, and the mouth is a heat sink. Jeff, they will be $10.99 USD for three riders, three bikes, three stands, and four weapons inserts (the missile rack is optional). The sets are entirely pewter. Yes, the riders are separate from the bikes. For people who don't like the attack scythes, they are easy enough to remove. I will be adding them to the summer store either monday or tuesday -- probably Monday. Thanks and I'm glad you Felid commanders mostly like them as much as I do! |

Hmmmm, The faces grow on you and being that it's an alien vehicle, who am I to say. |
Mako11 | 03 Sep 2011 10:36 a.m. PST |
I like them, and imagine they will sell quite well. Just not a Felid gamer. The claws are a neat addition, and like you say, are easy to remove. |
infojunky | 03 Sep 2011 11:55 a.m. PST |
So any chance of getting some riders separate? I will be getting some of the bikes but I have Ideas
Ok I have a sideline project to make JetBikes and I have been collecting riders for said project

I like them but am in the 'not keen on the faces' camp. The reason being that I would use them for a different purpose and change the riders. That said, for the Felids, they make perfect sense and are well crafted
so excellent work from Khurasan.
and for those people in the 'no-faces is best' camp
.how hard is it to fill the gaps? Not very, I'll wager ;) |
khurasanminiatures | 04 Sep 2011 4:54 p.m. PST |
I think even just removing the searchlights would probably do the trick. |

Yep, That was my thought. but honestly a paint job can totally change things as well. |

I think my Traveller Aslan are going to get a mobility upgrade very soon. And while I my self would not like a bike with a face on it, it certaily looks like something the Aslan might use. Now if that drop ship will just come along

Any thoughts on doing Garn or Felid buildings ? |
khurasanminiatures | 05 Sep 2011 5:54 a.m. PST |
I should point out that the lower body is part of the jetbike, and that the upper bodies are separate. Actually a Garn dwelling has been made. Typically Garn, it is a combination simple home and personal bunker. I'm just waiting for another designer to finish something so I may send them both to the printer at the same time. Felids have been "risen" and still have many traditional elements to their culture, like their dwellings. They live in huts very similar to those of the Zulus, which are readily available to gamers. |

"Felids have been "risen" and still have many traditional elements to their culture, like their dwellings. Good to know. but being uplifted by the garn, wouldn't they possibly have more modern looking armouries to store weapons? I suddenly have an image of a Felid quartermaster in the "I love the smell of Napalm in the morning" stance in my head. |

I'm guessing their armories are Garn-built as well. Anything more advanced than a crossbow probably has a stamp on it that reads "Made on the Garn homeworld". |

Thanks JBR, great job as usual. JBR designed the Kark panzers as well (other than their track, the Karkwagon, which was designed by our own Grabula before he went into the service), and I think they are also neat designs. There's a "Karkpanzer (l)," (l) for leicht, a light panzer (actually a TD and assault gun type vehicle for the infantry), the "Karkpanzer (m)," (m) meaning mittel, a medium panzer which was inspired in part by the Tiger II heavy tank and the E-75 project, and then a "Karkpanzer (f)," a flakpanzer version of the Karkpanzer (m), with a flak turret with two rapid-fire lasers. I've already previewed the Karkwagon, which should be released soon, and the others are not quite far enough ahead in the production process to be previewed yet. They are at the caster and it may be a few months before I get them. Would love to make a Karkpanzer (s) in the future, JBR's schedule permitting. |

rhino3d.com Retail is pricey, but student discounts are available. Novedge is usually where I buy my upgrades (it's due for a 5.0 release soon). Best, JBR |
