Go on, you're going to say space ritual aren't you ?

But I reckon Hall of the Mountain Grill, or X-In search of space. What do you reckon ?

Historicalgamer31 Aug 2011 5:54 a.m. PST

Hall for me.

I do have a bit of a soft spot for Chronicles, and even more for Live Chronicles.

And I'm willing to admit it publicly.

Chris B31 Aug 2011 6:03 a.m. PST

I've actually never heard Hawkwind. Considering my geeky past, that's pretty remarkable.

SECURITY MINISTER CRITTER31 Aug 2011 6:08 a.m. PST

What Chris said, and the dude like lives in Dallas.

If you're going to try them at any point I'd recommend the first 5 albums, and later ones with Nic Turner still in the band.

I'm not a great Calvert fan. Although High Rise is a great song (one of his IIRC).

How is it possible for someone to know Pink Floyd, but not the mighty hawkwind ?

Nah, I don't understand man, I don't understand. I just don't understand, man. Like, I don't understand.

Between Hall, Warrior on the edge of time and Quark!

Tally Ho!

Norman D Landings31 Aug 2011 7:07 a.m. PST

Ruddy heck, it stinks of patchouli in here.
Reminds me of buying Runequest miniatures from 'Rivendell' in the Hippy Arcade.

Plynkes31 Aug 2011 7:32 a.m. PST

Your android replica is playing up again. It's no joke. When she comes she moans another's name…

Connard Sage31 Aug 2011 7:35 a.m. PST

Warrior on the Edge of Time or Hall of the Mountain Grill. Depending.

richarDISNEY31 Aug 2011 7:38 a.m. PST

Last time I heard of them was in 1986 highschool.
I cannot even remember anything from them.

Tough question.
Probably "Levitation", if I had to choose.

Mister X31 Aug 2011 8:26 a.m. PST

As lemmy said of Hawkwind- we weren't the Pink Floyd.

Also pretty much what 20thMaine said, except I really like Rob Calvert stuff a lot- a good album for any Americans; Lucky Leaf and the Longships.

Hawkwind are so good it's just too much work to decide witch is my favorite.

ming3131 Aug 2011 9:14 a.m. PST

Do not know album ..but the one with "sonic Attack"

sumerandakkad31 Aug 2011 9:33 a.m. PST

I go with the albums up to Space Ritual. After seems like a decline. I still go with I.SO.S & 'Master of the Universe' though a lot of good tracks on DOREME… and the others.

RKE Steve31 Aug 2011 10:28 a.m. PST

I still have Hall on an 8-Track cartridge that still plays! Yes I have a player, one of those all in one 8track radio and turn table.

Space Ritual.

Wilf1235831 Aug 2011 2:54 p.m. PST

Rob Calvert's other classic 'Captain Lockheed and the Starfighters'….

Swampster31 Aug 2011 3:23 p.m. PST

I bought a cassette which had Quark back to back with another album – Astounding Sounds I think. I liked both, but some of the other albums did nothing for me.

chronoglide31 Aug 2011 4:59 p.m. PST

Astounding Sounds….where all good handles are born….;-)

Hall of the Mountain Grill followed closely by Warrior on the Edge of Time.

My 19yo son just bought the CD of Hall of the Mountain Grill, made me very proud.

Martin Rapier01 Sep 2011 2:45 p.m. PST

Masters of the Universe a.k.a Hawkwinds Greatest Hits.

Far out.

Personal logo 20thmaine Supporting Member of TMP02 Sep 2011 6:59 a.m. PST

But which one – there's any number of albums with that tittle, most of them dodgy live bootlegs.

Do you mean the EMI "nice price" compilation with the cool covr art work ?

Good introduction.

On CD I'd reccommend the 3 CD Epoch-Eclipse for anyone wanting an overview of the band (has some rare tracks on as well). Even more I'd recommend the first 5 albums !

kevanG02 Sep 2011 11:22 a.m. PST

I am very partial to 'live 79'….

and the best version of sonic attack was on 'choose your masques'

but it has ALways been between Hall and edge of time

but when I hear 3 bars of 'lost johnny' its hall

then 3 bars of 'magnu' and its edge of time
