Just returned from Germany where I attended the Kulmbach exposition.

The show was very interesting, much like Historicon, without the wargames. A number of engravers, but also artists who paint figures.

Unfortunately, I didn't stay long. I got lost in the town and was pretty tired by the time someone led me to the show. I didn't even go to the Plassenberg Museum.

Now that I know my way around, perhaps I'll go to the 2013 show.

So did you actually buy any flats ?

About a dozen. Numidian light cavalry and Polish pancerni.

My wife was with me so I had to restrain myself. I already have about 1800 castings in line for painting. LOL

Hey, Paul.

Good to hear from you. How did the Ancients project work out for you ? Didn't do much with mine yet. I've really slacked off on painting flats in general to be honest.

I mixed about half of the archers with an equal number of Kieler Zinnfiguren archers to add greater variety of positions and had them painted as Roman Auxiliary archers. The rest will also be mixed and painted (eventually)as Cretan Archers in red tunics.

The pseudo-roman heavy infantry will have to wait :( until I get 80 real-roman legionnaires painted.

You can find pre-painted (Ancients) flats at Kulmbach if that's what you're looking for. It takes a bit of prowling around from stall-to-stall but that's half the fun. Of course at Kulmbach it's luck of the draw from year to year. Some years will be more productive than others.
