When it comes to miniature wargaming, are you primarily interested in the American Civil War? |

Yes, but I will play just about anything. I actually play more "other" than ACW, but I am most interested in ACW. |
Big Red | 29 Aug 2011 9:58 a.m. PST |
No, but it is my favorite period. |
twowheatons | 29 Aug 2011 10:01 a.m. PST |
No, but I have dropped eveything I personally own to ACW and WWII. |
SonofThor | 29 Aug 2011 10:02 a.m. PST |
When I started painting minis back in '84, I started with ACW. I still love that era in history but I don't play it exclusively. |
TKindred | 29 Aug 2011 10:05 a.m. PST |
No. I primarily play ancients, but I have spent 40+ years studying the civil war, particularly the material culture. Eventually I'll have a couple books out about the 3rd Maine Infantry, and Maine in the Civil War. |
Only Warlock | 29 Aug 2011 10:13 a.m. PST |
Nope. I own exactly one ACW ruleset, Johnny Reb 1st Ed and have never played it. |
x42brown | 29 Aug 2011 10:16 a.m. PST |
No. Quite the reverse. x42 |
cwbuff | 29 Aug 2011 10:19 a.m. PST |
Yes. At my gaming room it is JRIII. If I go somewhere and they are playing something else, I will play almost anything historical. |
ZULUPAUL | 29 Aug 2011 10:23 a.m. PST |
NOT EXCLUSIVELY BUT IT IS ONE OF MY TOP TWO PERIODS. |
Omemin | 29 Aug 2011 10:26 a.m. PST |
It's where I started painting, and I've done three complete sets so far (1 in Airfix plastic, 2 in 15mm). Now I'm looking at 25mms. |
21eRegt | 29 Aug 2011 10:29 a.m. PST |
No, but in the top five. Another endorsement for Johnny Reb BTW. |
The G Dog | 29 Aug 2011 10:32 a.m. PST |
One of the top two periods I game. |
WarWizard | 29 Aug 2011 10:38 a.m. PST |
No, but also in my top 5. |
Tiger73 | 29 Aug 2011 10:48 a.m. PST |
ACW and WWII are the only periods I usually game. I play other preiods at cons. |

If I'm allowed to rank ACW #1, tied with WW2 and Napoleonics, then yes. |
John the Greater | 29 Aug 2011 11:08 a.m. PST |
ACW and ancients are pretty much a tie. At conventions I never play either, rather I try stuff that is strange, odd or weird. |
Fat Wally | 29 Aug 2011 11:10 a.m. PST |
Primarily I consider myself to be a Napoleonic gamer. ACW comes a close second with AWI/WW2 and Ancients last. |
dandiggler | 29 Aug 2011 11:15 a.m. PST |
No. I have occasionally gamed ironclads, but that's it. |

Florida Tory | 29 Aug 2011 11:41 a.m. PST |
No. I game more with Napoleonics and Colonials. Rick |

I'm not primarily an ACW gamer, but I do have a great interest in it, especially when it comes to naval aspects (riverine and coastal scenarios, Confederate raiders, chasing down blockade runners, etc.), Professor Lowe's aerial observation corps, and more "unusual" theaters of combat (New Mexico, Indian Territory, etc.). |
John Leahy | 29 Aug 2011 11:49 a.m. PST |
I'm curious if anyone is primarily an ACW gamer? It's in my top choices as well. I love it! But I'd guess most historical gamers are into multiple periods. Thanks, John |

I will play ACW when there isn't anything else, and I have a weird fascination with 1/72 ACW figures, but otherwise I'm WWII, SYW, and post apocalyptic anymore. |
Grand Duke Natokina | 29 Aug 2011 12:20 p.m. PST |
I used to be really a specialist in the ACW as a historian. And I have gamed it, but prefer WWII and PostWar/Modern. |

Not as a primary interest. But it is one of my favorite periods. I just to not get to game as much as I would like. |

Yes. I'll play other eras but ACW remains my favorite by far. |

I as once a regular/constant ACW gamer. However, not currently as I am playing everything but ACW. I am sure I will be back to the period to play with my 1,000's of minis for the period. |
Sundance | 29 Aug 2011 2:02 p.m. PST |
Interested, yes, primarily, no. |
vojvoda | 29 Aug 2011 2:03 p.m. PST |
I would have to say Yes. I had a library of over 500 books on the subject, mostly Eastern theater and Gettysburg. I had figures in every scale out there and had a huge 40mm armies of around 2000 figures. I have a ton of Ancients (Punic Era mostly) and a ton of Napoleonics (mostly 1809 and 1812) and I dabble in Pirates, Zombies, Naval Age of Sail and Ancients, Vietnam, Star Wars flight and Hoth, and a few others mostly just units I like from other eras but if GOD forbit I could only play one it would be ACW. I have had custom figures made for me in ACW something I have never done in any other period. I started gaming in 1972 or so with WWII, and Airfix plastics, The first army I ever painted was Airfix ACW. The first metal figures I purchased were Garrison Ancients. I did not go over to metal ACW until Heritage came out. JRIII rules! Althought I like Guns at Gettysburg and Polomos as well. F&F is okay if I have to. VR James Mattes |

No. I do game ACW naval myself and have friends that have collections and play with them from time to time. I'm even reading a book about the ACW right now but it is pretty far from my primary period. If I even have one. |
BTCTerrainman | 29 Aug 2011 5:40 p.m. PST |
James: I started a large napoleonics project and I have been collecting and reading a lot of stuff from the period. We have also collected 1000's of figures for pre 1809 battles. Combine that with several trips to walk battlefields in Germany and Belgium
.you get the idea. Now don't get me wrong, I still have a strong interest in ACW and read the occasional book from the period (my library numbers in the 400+ range for ACW), and my travels for work has started taking me by a bunch of battlefields (I walked 3rd Winchester, the Slaughter Pen Farm at Fredricksburg and a couple of miles of Chickamauga all this month. I also visited the National Civil War Naval Museum last week). So I am still deeply imbedded in the period. None of my current gang has been into the ACW that much, so I went with the flow (heck we are hardly able to get together to game this year). I expect ACW gaming to start again soon, but right now I will settle for gaming in general. In regards to the two boards from the clinic, no they have not sold and they are sitting here in my game area. I may have to dig them out soon and run a game

What Sundance said. I'm going to try to get some friends into it, however; hopefully next year. |

No. But, I do have figures in 10/15/25/54mm. And, probably dozens of books. |
