A game ran at the recent Guns of August convention, which Dewey LaRochelle was kind enough to document with his camera. Thanks, Dewey! This was fairly ad hoc in set up but turned out to be a great game. Pretty much it was a draw between the Dwarves and the Bone Griffons. Everything in between them got savaged. Very nicely done. For some reason that got me thinking about using Command & Colors rules for Uncharted Seas fights on a hex map :) |

Looks like fun, thanks for sharing. How would you compare Uncharted Seas with Man of War from GW? |

@nsolomon99: Man of War is one of those games that was great when I played it back in the 90s but maybe benefits too much from the nostalgia factor in my mind. I loved it back then, but couldn't get a copy of it until much later (on Ebay) by which time a lot of the material (esp. ship models) was getting rarer then hen's teeth. So I have never really set up MoW on my own-- just played in other people's games whenever they happened to be run, which was almost never in the last ten years. My take on it is that the old GW mechanics were solid enough, but slower and more detail driven then the Spartan Games "bucket of six siders" mechanics. Uncharted Seas (really, any of the Spartan Games rule sets) will not exactly make Alfred Mahan get wrinkles but they are designed to play quickly, with obvious results that everyone can understand without a lot of conflict. I'm very satisfied with their approach towards design. Walt |

I find the game to be a nice diversion and I've had some hard fought battles--literally down to the last die roll stuff. |
