Ok folks, Im branching out into 15mm Victorian SF since I picked up G.A.S.L.I.G.H.T. and when the navy walked. going to do up some tanks and some martian stuff so shoot me some ideas if you have something special in mind. CW |

I'd like a steam-powered Landkreuzer Ratte with multiple turrets. |

This may not be the direction you would like to go: However, consider making modular VSF vehicles. In my mind at least, the Victorian era was NOT about standardized mass production, so these vehicles would all be one off, hand made items. So, I suggest making a series of tracks, wheels, screws a set of boilers: Vertical, horizontal and transverse, a set of cabins, some open, closed, canvas topped, and armored and sets of deck guns: from historic light cannon and Gatling and other machine guns as well as fanciful ray guns ect. Make it some then can be widely mixed and matched with lots of degrees of freedom (play) between the parts so that a person could recombined and position the parts in many different ways. Here are some link to my aging web site with some VSF inspiration: Here are some historical photos of cool vehicles: link Here are some odd WWI era ones I have worked on: link link Here are some toy conversions: link link link I personally am not a big fan of giant two legged walkers, but they seem popular in general. I find that toy conversion give many options already, so the marked my not exist for VSF models in is area, but I include this for completeness: link Here are some simple boiler plate add-ons I made to help covert toys to VSF: link Consider this line of 28mm items from Ramshackle: link link link link As you can see I could go on forever about this subject: DyeHard |

What DyeHard said, though I think he's hijacked some of the ideas I put out about steam traction to another manufacturer! : ) But, hey, good ideas are good ideas, nes pas? |
DyeHard | 26 Aug 2011 11:52 a.m. PST |
I promise this was my independent thought! Must just be a case of great minds thinking alike. Thou, as expressed above, I was impressed by Ramshackle's line. But I stick strictly to 15mm. |

I think this is a great idea. 15mm VSF is rapidly gaining in popularity, but offerings for vehicles are sparse at teh moment. I'd like to see a landship of some sort. You can do a pretty vehicle in 15mm scale, and still make it a reasonable size and price. Something with multiple turrets, lots of rivets, and at least two smokestacks (which will make it look more ship-like, less like just another steamtank). |

Just remember, some of use might want to mix elements of VSF with other forms of scifi

Scott Remember the stuff you did for me several years ago? If you want to revisit that I'm all in! I'd be very happy to work with you on VSF vehicles Terry |

Depending on how it is done, VSF can work as gothic Sci Fi too. |

CW, It all depends on what you call VSF? Just the 1889 game stuff? Or do you include War Of The Worlds, First Men In The Moon, The Time Machine, 20,000 Leagues and such? Or are you considering something no one has done yet

Not to rain on your parade, CC, but it would be exceedingly difficult to put together stuff like that using Scotty's build method (plasticard and plastic rod/tube/plate construction). Riveted steam-belching monstrosities on the other hand are quite doable. |

TSO sounds good. CC : LBW is right in the current form of CWM but i am teaching myself 3d modelling and its going quite well. I think I might try my hand at a cool saucer like that. I am leaning towards the classic style right now. Figuring out how to turn TW into VSF! CW |

Lets get together and talk. I live out in St Peters but we can meet anywhere in St Louis that works for you. Maybe next weekend at The Fatted Cafe in Clayton? They make a dandy cheese burger! |

Here is a new product that might really help in the fabrication of VSF miniatures (either masters or one-offs). It is 3D rivets that are applied in the same manor as a decal: link This will really help to speed up the making of a riveted item. DyeHard |

cw, you ARE going to be at Recruits, right? As I oft say, air naval battles, especially boarding actions, cry for 15mm
When you can get close to doubling the 'size' of the ship you represent on the table, that's only a good thing. Doug PS I'm a bit of a fan as well, but I can't admit it too loudly; 'true' VSF fans can get rather snooty about it. ;->= |
