Some reviewers have suggested that AD X 2 is overpowered for cavalry charge. Any thoughts?

With so many counters to cavalry charges, (pike blocks, archery, magic, artillery, flight), cavalry would suffer if they were not dangerous.

I would recommend the nay-sayers pay a visit to any nearby renaissance festival that has jousting on display… The spectacle, along with the thunder of the horses' hooves, should suffice to convince them of their errors. And, yes, I am absolutely serious!

The visual of the horses' mass, in motion, along with the riders' weapons and speed, are quite a site to behold. I found myself a little shaken by it, and I was at the side of their pathway, and a good distance to boot! I was surprised at what effect it had on me. It will serve as a very good instructor for all. Cheers!

Not at all. Just played a game last weekend, and my heavy cav charged a unit of spearmen. Bad move. I didn't have the numbers he did, and after a turn or two he sent me packing. religion has it right, there is so much going on as a unit charges that 2x is not an unreasonable bonus.

I don't think so, particularly when looking at other elements of the game (as Religion was referring).

Infantry is X 1.5, what would you change cavalry to if you judged X2 to be too much. The biggest cavalry defense (set spears/polearms) is also X2, is that too powerful as well. Cavalry is often at least twice the cost of a infantry figure, they need the times two to be worth it. After a bunch of play with lots of cavalry it dosn't seem like an out of balance element of the game (and there's a few of those but IMHO this isn't one of them)

I don't think it's overpowered. Most games give cavalry charges a hefty bonus and the Battleystem bonus of ADx2 doesn't seem out of line with other systems.

As Scot pointed out, with Infantry getting a ADx1.5 bonus, lowering Cavaly would make them seem very under powered.

A proper cavalry charge should be devastating.
