I have some 1:300 scale Hips and Hinds to paint for the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan.

What Vallejo codes would be best suited?

No idea. Have you tried looking at a colour photograph of a Hip or Hind and comparing it to a Vallejo colour chart?

For my Soviet helos in 15mm and 1/600 I tend to use Iraqi Sand as the base color, then whatever brown and/or green that looks good.

Thanks.

Not a problem, the browns and greens were not uniform on the helos so you can get away with different shades and patterns. Just for example one color scheme I use is Intermediate Green darkened just a bit, then Flat Earth for the brown, hit it with a light brown wash and light drybrushing and weathering as needed. The Iraqi Sand base is usually my one constant though, including on Soviet ground attack aircraft like the Su-25 and MiG-27.
