The Quar would fit right in with the retro look of that beast. -Eli |
NoLongerAMember | 05 Aug 2011 8:44 a.m. PST |
Err it will dwarf 15mm figures, I have 2 of them I use for my 28mm Venusians, it is a big beast of a model. |
Jeff W | 05 Aug 2011 8:47 a.m. PST |
And the 15mm quar are already kind of on the tiny side of 15mm anyhow, relative to Khurasan, Rebel, GZG, etc. @FreddBloggs: Is it too large to call it superheavy in 15mm or does the detailing preclude its use? |
OldGrenadier at work | 05 Aug 2011 9:11 a.m. PST |
I think the term is "continental siege vehicle". |
NoLongerAMember | 05 Aug 2011 9:18 a.m. PST |
Size wise it looks like a big tank alongside GW Space Marines. It has a larger footprint than a Leman Russ, although its not as tall. Detailwise it would be fine alongside 15mms, but it will tower over them. |
Farstar | 05 Aug 2011 9:19 a.m. PST |
The 28mm Quar would fit right in, though. To adapt it to 15mm would need a bit of surface re-scaling, adding in an obvious observation deck, smaller hatches, etc. |
Psyckosama | 05 Aug 2011 9:43 a.m. PST |
Huh. I thought the surface detailing is actually not bad for 15mm if these pics are any indication. It's just
well
huge. Really really frickin' huge
Which I'll admit is kinda the point
^_^ link |
Jeff W | 05 Aug 2011 9:48 a.m. PST |
I that case, I think Eli is right about the Quar. You could also go the ork angle with it too, I guess, and use it to support GZG Alien Mercs. |
NoLongerAMember | 05 Aug 2011 9:48 a.m. PST |
Detail is good, but is Plastic kit good, so understated and to scale, rather than GW hit you with a sledgehammer detail. |
Goldwyrm | 05 Aug 2011 9:57 a.m. PST |
I haven't finished mine yet, but here's some figures for scale
The infantry in the foreground are Alternative Armies 15mm with a converted 25mm West End Games Star Wars Zero-G trooper as a dreadnought to the left. The 28mm figure behind the kit's pig crewman is from Heresy, followed by a 28mm B5 RPG miniature and another 15mm AA figure on a bike. |
Eli Arndt | 05 Aug 2011 10:11 a.m. PST |
Goldwyn, not to derail the thread, but what AA figs are those? They fit perfect for a project of mine. -Eli |
endrju94 | 05 Aug 2011 10:14 a.m. PST |
I plan to use Akuyaku with Eureka Sci-Fi Germans – they look great as Bauhaus Ducal Militia and the Akuyaku design is almost identical to a Bauhaus Grizzly tank from Warzone 1st ed.:

Ivan DBA | 05 Aug 2011 10:22 a.m. PST |
I picked up one of these to use as a 15mm super-heavy tank. I haven't assembled it yet, but I'm really excited about its potential. I think it works well, both in terms of overall size, and how the detailing looks compared to 15mm figures. If you compare its size and footprint relative to a 15mm figure, versus the size & footprint of a 6mm super-heavy relative to a 6mm figure (i.e., Epic), it looks right. Although the kit is intended to be 1/72, which might make you think the detailing would be too big, it actually looks right, probably because 15mm figures tend to be chunkier than 1/72 figures. I bought my from Hobby Link Japan, and recommend buying from them: hlj.com/product/TACTG-2 Considering the size and complexity of the kit, the price is not bad. Here's a very inspirational completed version: link Note that the modeller converted it a bit by adding some additional wooden walkways on the superstructure, and railings. And one guy's in-progress shots: link Bear in mind that this is a model kit--i.e., it has a LOT of parts and requires a lot of assembly, as evidenced by the photos here (yes, apparently they have a girl who assembles and paints kits): link link |
Ivan DBA | 05 Aug 2011 10:33 a.m. PST |
And as for what figures would look good with it, I think thematically the Quar would go very well (both have a WWI feel to them), though I don't have any Quar figures to do a comparison with--I understand that Quar are smaller than humans. I'm going to be using this as an Imperial Guard tank, so I'll be using it with some RAFM figures who are my IG proxies: link (Try to ignore the bizare paint scheme, and imagine them in codex gray uniforms

Little Big Wars | 05 Aug 2011 11:13 a.m. PST |
@emu2020: I think those 15mm figures are HOF Muster troops, though I'm not positive about that.
|
ordinarybass | 05 Aug 2011 2:26 p.m. PST |
Oh man, that would be just the perfect tank for my spacelords Sardaykin! One more thing for the list
|
Jeff W | 05 Aug 2011 2:30 p.m. PST |
@Astranagant: If those are the Muster troops, its nice to see some paint on them. Its hard to pick out the detail on the bare metal pics at the manufacturer's site. |
28mmMan | 05 Aug 2011 2:48 p.m. PST |
Looks like it comes with a troop of pig-men
|
Psyckosama | 05 Aug 2011 3:11 p.m. PST |
Yeah, but cute anime pig-men aren't exactly what you'd call an average 15mm army
:p |
infojunky | 05 Aug 2011 4:19 p.m. PST |
Man. I so want one now. As for crewing it I would look at GZG's Colonists a fair number of them are in overalls. As for accompanying forces think Eureka's Space Nazi's or Rebel Mini's Titan Marines. |
Little Big Wars | 05 Aug 2011 4:39 p.m. PST |
@JeffW75: What bare metal pics? I mean, their paint jobs and the photos of said paint jobs are fairly meh, but all of the HOF and Laserburn range on the 15mm.co.uk website feature pictures of painted figures. |
Jeff W | 05 Aug 2011 4:49 p.m. PST |
@Astragant: So they do- must have been thinking of something else. |
Gunner Dunbar | 05 Aug 2011 6:07 p.m. PST |
I think it fits well with 15mm and am now considering buying one, as for troops, Eurekas Sci Fi Germans, or any low tech types. |
Pedrobear | 05 Aug 2011 7:48 p.m. PST |
Cute. Thank goodness it is too expensive for me to actually want to buy it. :) |

I see Astranagant answered the AA figure question Emu2020 had while I was out. In case anyone was curious about the old Bauhaus Grizzly (endrju94's pic) in comparison to the Akuyaku, here's a side by side:
Here's the two I have with some 28mm Plastic Bauhaus in between for scale.
They're my Sci-fi King Tiger guilty pleasure, except used more as terrain or game objectives
LOL.

Wow. Obvious copy is obvious
:p |
Sumatran Rat Monkey | 06 Aug 2011 1:42 p.m. PST |
Considering they're both based on the same real world tanks, I don't think you can really call the Grizzly a copy of the other, or vice versa. Also, Goldwyrm, I am officially direly jealous of you owning two Grizzes. :P - Monk |
Eli Arndt | 06 Aug 2011 2:25 p.m. PST |
I am going to venture the guess that the Bauhaus tank is based on Miyazaki's tank. Though the model is newer, the original sketches that it is based on go back a ways. -Eli |
Sumatran Rat Monkey | 06 Aug 2011 2:49 p.m. PST |
I would wager not- more than likely, especially given the troop style of both Bauhaus in general, and the Imperial Trenchers, Regulars, and so forth, I'd say it's a given that the Grizzly is patterned directly from the same tank Miyazaki mimicked, the French Char-B1 bis.
- Monk |
Eli Arndt | 07 Aug 2011 12:09 p.m. PST |
Monk, You may be right, but for both the Grizzly and Miyazakis tanks to be so close to one another I'd say that one was influenced by the other. I know Miyazaki is a huge fan of interwar hardware and I am sure he based his tanks off of the early French tanks (a lot of his ships are based on French ships). What makesm e think there is a more direct connection are distinct similarities that the Char-b1 does not have. 1) 3 sponsons up front 2) telescoping parascope. -Eli |
Crucible Orc | 07 Aug 2011 1:41 p.m. PST |
EMU2020 it's far more likely then either one being a copy of other. as you say, Miazaki liked interwar tanks, and since Warzone is sort of WW1/2 in space, and Bauhaus plays mostly on it's franco-german heritage, I think it is far more likely that both look to the same source rather then to each other. |
Ivan DBA | 09 Aug 2011 5:58 a.m. PST |
I've read elsewhere that the Miazaki artwork came first. There are too many identical details on the Grizzly, the designer was clearly at least inspired by Miazaki's design, to put it kindly. Compare the diamond pattern on the plough in front, and the arrangement of the driver's cupola and the two turrets on each side of it, for example. Not to mention the outlandish and highly unusual tread design.
