Moving on to the 1860s. British Infantry in New Zealand were reputedly outfitted with blue jackets. Same color blue as the pants? How about the forest rangers? Same color blue as the British infantry? I've seen canteens described as blue. Are we talking sky blue? True blue? Dark blue? I've seen various blues used in pictures of other people's miniatures. Thank you, Ed |

Cannot wait for the answers to this one. AFAIK, British Artillery, Naval Officers and Engineers wore a dark blue. mjc |

When you say all, you mean the Forest Rangers as well as the British regulars? British Naval as well as British Infantry? How about the canteens? |

British army canteens were the light blue-grey that was standard at that time: brithttp://hicketypip.tripod.com/equiphoto/canteen.htm This student activity from the Tawhiti Museum in Hawera gives a good breakdown of the Forest Rangers' uniform. it says that the blue jumper was a lighter blue than the blue trousers: PDF link I don't have any specific details of British naval uniforms worn in the New Zealand Wars, but would suspect they would be the standard British naval landing party uniforms of the era. |
