I have used these in the past
link They are just a bit too small. I have also used these
. link (The Armorcast ones are not really my favorite BT models.) I'm sure BattleTech is not the best option in this scale, but I'm not sure what is better. What is the best 28mm Mecha for wargaming? Inspired by: TMP link TMP link |

I'm a fan of Robogear. Some of them are a bit cartooney, but with some modification, they make great mechs and there's a dealer on Ebay selling them for around 7 bucks each. Here's what I did with a slew of robogear sets. link Be sure to check both pages as the best mechs are at the bottom of pages 1 and 2. |

I'm not aware of anyone doing 28mm scale other than Armorcast. I've been playing with doing 15mm using the 1/100 scale mechs, but haven't found much in 28mm. |

Hellion ( john bear ross) did a CAV dictator 1/60 scale . I have ( but have not assembled) a 1/48 scale Votom Scope dog model by Takara . There are some nice walkers in the nexus /kryomek range |

I've used a couple of Japanese robot kits in a model shop which are about 250mm high -they look good but I don't know where you'd get them. There seem to be a lot of these kits out there on the net but you don't often get an idea of size. This could be a start (he said after a 5 second internet trawl!!) link |

@SonofThor, I think from a strictly BT POV you may be right. Perhaps a toy gamer can help guys like us wedded to our BattleTech bias. :) The Robogear ones look nice. Thought of another I like (OOP WOTC)
link Bob Olley converted on of these to use with his Scrunts a couple of years ago and it looked very good. |

I took a look at toys and modded them. I also did the ED-209 vinyl model from years ago

Looks like John Bear Ross did another 1/60 mecha
Scorpions (image is of the smaller one). I recall the small one, but never liked this design and I understand there were casting issues in 1/60.

What about the TekCommander stuff?
Here is a quick linky: linkSome of the mechs are around a foot tall and have swappable weapon options. |

Wow WeeSparky -now we're getting somewhere!!!! |

And they are easy to convert to fit a 28mm scaled pilot in them:
They are the 1/35 scale versions :). |

Dare I say that there is always Forgeworld and it's range of titans. |

@religion, You're probably right! I just love the back story for B-Tech, it's probably one of the most well thought out settings. I forgot about the VOTOMS figures though, those are perfect for a dark future setting, or even gaming in the VOTOMS universe! |
religon | 27 Jul 2011 7:54 a.m. PST |
@Insomniac, Those are special. Plastic I assume. Would it be easy to convert the head of one into a BattleTech ShadowHawk (or Zeus) style cockpit? |
Insomniac | 27 Jul 2011 4:09 p.m. PST |
Yep
plastic 1/35 scale kits (plenty on e-bay). The conversion wouldn't be too hard
the head can be worked on away from the body so you can add plasticard and stuff then slot it onto the body. |
ajax228 | 27 Jul 2011 10:09 p.m. PST |
i used a transformer action figure for weird war ww2. also Insomniac where did you get those models from. |
Stealth1000 | 27 Jul 2011 11:54 p.m. PST |
Robotech from ebay. About 7 inches tall. They do a Battletech warhammer, rifleman and archer. |
Insomniac | 28 Jul 2011 2:50 a.m. PST |
I got my kits from here: link but there are no pix there. For pix of the kits, try here: hlj.com/top/Sci In the search boxes put this: Scale: 1/35 Series: VOTOMS |

Discounting Weird WWII figures (Dust Tactics & Gear Krieg), steampunk, highly collectible rarities and anime models, I come up with the following list. (I'm not judging the genres omitted other than to note that they are best represented in the context of the proper setting. The shorter, manageable list seem independent of specific settings and work in many near-future visions.) Any errors or oversights? I tried to note the RoboGear models that are UK only, but please help if I screwed it up. Armorcast Atlas Armorcast Vulture Armorcast Mad Cat CAV 1/60 Dictator CAV 1/60 Scorpion Matchbox Robotech Tomahawk (BT Warhammer) Matchbox Robotech Defender (BT Rifleman) Matchbox Robotech Spartan (BT Longbow) Matchbox Robotech Gladiator (BT Archer) RoboGear Spider RoboGear Thunder RoboGear Werewolf RoboGear Hurricane RoboGear T-Rex RoboGear Mad Bull RoboGear Locust RoboGear Raptor (UK) RoboGear Wild Bear (UK) RoboGear Raving Beast (UK) RoboGear Super Locust (UK) Robocop ED-209 vinyl model TekCommander Pigeonhawk TekCommander Paladin TekCommander Dwarf TekCommander Deinonychus TekCommander Troll TekCommander Warlord TekCommander Wartoad TekCommander Gladiator TekCommander Strikefire TekCommander Linebacker VOTOM Scopedog model (1/48 or 1/35) WOTC Mandalorian Basilisk War Droid |

Got a 10cm tall VOTOMS red shoulder Scope Dog off Evilbay to use with my Warlord 101st Airborne, if I ever got into WWWII
but mostly beacuse it looks radical. I've not really played any 28mm mecha, it mostly falls into either 6mm on a small table, or 10mm. Hobbylink Japan are offering 55% off some rahter nice Nadesico series Aestivalis mecha
quite expensive but still nice. |
